I was made redundant from a part-time cleaning job, at the end of June.
The amount of redundancy pay was all agreed and also payment of 12 weeks wages in lieu of notice (amounting to approx £1650), everything was confirmed in writing. I assumed it would be paid by BACS, as my wages were on the next due date, which was 9th July. I was however only paid my normal 2 weeks wages, on checking the wage slip, it confirmed the payment was for the work period up to and including 27/6, which was fair enough, as I didn't actually finish work until 30/6, so assumed it would be paid on the next payment date, today (23/7). On checking my bank account, it seems they've paid me approx half, £796.00. Until I get home and check the payslip and the redundancy confirmation letter, I can't be sure how exactly this amount is arrived at. My question is, is there a set amount of time when redundancy pay has to be paid, or is it entirely at the employers discretion? I'm waiting for them to return my call, to see if I can find out when they intend paying the remainder. Are there any steps I can take to speed the process up? Am I in a position to demand payment is made forthwith? In hindsight, I suppose that I should have got the payment dates put in the confirmation letter, but never having been made redundant before, I didn't even think of it, just assumed it would be paid straight away. -- Sean Black |
