Hearing Compensation a Scam or Genuine? by
Dave Jones
Hi has anyone had any experience of hearing compensation companies?
Recently a radio station advertised a company called HCRU. Their stationary
shows the address in Astley, but there is no reference to them being a
limited company or details of company registration. I rang them and was
booked two days later to give an over the phone question and answer session
lasting about 20 minutes....

Anonymity, accountability, and keyboard inspired bravado. by
Guy Fawkes
I, like many others, have been watching "current affairs" here in this
group, and witnessing the apalling behaviour of a tiny minority.
As some of you are aware, I myself have been the victim of an internet
libel / abuse / harassment campaign which is still progressing through
the courts, so I've been watching this one with more than a little
interest because I'm not involved and so it offers me...

work accident by
dj152
Hello All,
I work at Tesco. Last week a customer ran into me, my glasses went
flying and are cracked and the frames are broken. As this happened at
work, and wouldn't have happened if I wasn't there, should my employer
pay for my glasses?. Bare in mind I got paid about £60 for my whole
shift, my glasses are about £200... I don't go to work to lose money!.
Any help would be appreciated.

Debt collection agency help by
Gef.Mongoose@gmail.com
Over the Christmas period HSBC called me stating they wanted repayment
of my graduate account in full. Even though the account was within
agreed limits, they stated a few bounced direct debits were the cause.
I received letters to this effect too.
I also have a credit card with this bank and they stated my credit
card and graduate account would be consolidated and I could either take

No offence, but there are no lawyers left here by
Lorenzo
This group used to have lots of good advice from people who knew what they
were talking about. The law is difficult and there is room for
disagreement, even between experts, on what the answer might be.
Then the lawyers were attacked by various people, just for being lawyers,
and most of them left (presumably for another - moderated - newsgroup).
The end result is that someone posts a...

Vehicle checkpoints by
faddy
What is the legality of multi-agency vehicle checkpoints, typically
involving the police, DWP (DSS as was), excise persons, trading standards
etc?
In particular, is a driver obliged to answer questions as to whether he/she
is "on benefit"?

Importing airsoft guns for personal use by
AN O'Nymous
I was interested in buying an airsoft gun from the US. The price of
guns here in the UK are much more expensive than those for sale in the
US. What do I need to do if I wanted to import an airsoft gun or two
from the US?
The one I'm looking at is a metallic replica of the real thing with a
muzzle energy of a few joules. For shotgun-type guns, does the muzzle
energy figure count on a per-pellet...

Oxford College JCR (students' union) and Freedom of Information by

Hi,
I'm wondering if someone could tell me if the JCR of an Oxford College is
included under the FOI Act?
I know that Unions and other independent associations are exempt, but the
JCR receives all its funding from the College (which is covered) and there
is no membership fee.
My request is that they publish the minuets of the JCR's Executive (in line

Disabled tax transfer... by
Marcus Fox
If I buy a second hand car that still has time to run on the tax disc,
that's fine, but what if the previous owner was disabled (and I'm not) and
hence has a disabled tax disc. Is it still transferred with the vehicle, or
do I have to buy a new one?

Car insurance q - are we covered? by
Mogweed
My wife and I both have our own cars but it just isn't practical to rigidly
stick to using our own so we take each other's as the situation dictates. My
wife needs to use a car for work and receives a mileage allowance, so we pay
extra on both insurance policies to have business cover on both cars for my
wife.
For medical reasons, I'm not working at the moment and so I do *not* have...

Incentives to reduce traffic by
Fabian
Hi all,
I wonder whether the Uk government gives incentives to companies to
help reducing traffic/commuting.
For example, in Holland, government helps companies public transport
tickets from employees.
Other countires have incentives in adopting telework or car-pooling and
so on.
