Illegal benefit claim by
Gowrie
Hi,
Recently I had been claiming JSA and HB, starting November 2005, and
finishing a couple of weeks ago (Jan 20th) when I found a job.
Today I received a letter from my Jobcentre asking me to an interview.
Since I'm not claiming any more, I phoned them to ask why and they said
that the IR had come across some capital that I hadn't declared.
This, unfortunately, is true -- I do have an ISA worth...

scumbags sorely deserve a shoeing of epic proportions.

Slam locks on a van's cab doors - legal? by
AstraVanMan
Please excuse the length of this, but I would very much appreciate some
advice regarding this matter.
I subcontract to a large next-day parcel company, and part of my contract
(which I signed a while back) states that I must have slam-locks on all
doors of the van. I haven't yet got them fitted, but getting them fitted
(as they are now chasing me up to do) isn't an issue as I knew I'd have...

PCWorld/Packard Bell/Norton nagger. Legal? by
Derry Argue
I recently purchased a PC from PCWorld. OK, so I probably got what I
deserved, but (considering what's below) it is legal?
The PC came with demo version of Norton already installed.
The demo version eventually expired and every time I logged on I got a pop
up reminding me of the fact and prompting me to buy the full version. This
is presumably designed to annoy so the user woll buy the...

Balance of Probabilities by
paul nutteing
Balance of Probabilities
What does the phrase mean ?
For a 2 valued characteristic ,say, A or NOT-A.
If a quoted balance of probability is situation A,
does that mean there is a probability of
being A, lying
between 50 percent plus a smidgeon to 100 per
cent minus a smidgeon ?

Who'll really protect London and England? by
Billy H
The terrorist 'assaults', caused by whatever reason, are a constant threat
and London is ever vigilant. The Met. Police are stretched and they must (in
my opinion) be of a different mindset and nerve than the remainder of
England (outside of London). You really have to know the geography of
London, and the people who live, work and play there to understand the
problems.
The question of who...

Never has an invasion of Iraq looked more clumsy and shortsighted by
Scott
The past few days have seen the first fruits of the catastrophic
shortsighted U.S. imperial policies in the Middle East.
First, the Palestinian election was won by Hamas. Bush's reaction to the
establishment of his much vaunted democratisation of the Middle East: 'We
don't recognise the elected government, we're going to cut off aid'.
Israel's reaction: it immediately suspended the payment...

Statute Barred Hearing by

Statute Barred Hearing
Can someone please tell me how it is decided at the court hearing if a case
is statute barred? The papers were issued 4 months ago and were served at
the end of that period. The wrong papers were enclosed and when it was
realised, it had gone a day over the time limit. It is now being contested
by the defendent.
Does the judge look at the original case and take it into...

Rental inventory.. by
Marcus Fox
A friend of mine is renting a house through a letting agent, and today we
went round the house with the agent and did the inventory. The agent said
she'd visit again in a week's time to check out anything else that my friend
had discovered that needed to be mentioned or wasn't happy with.
Something I'm worried about is that the inventory was far from being overly
comprehensive, was only things...

More police nonsense re ANPR system by
Alex Flaherty
BBC's Points West local news bulletin has just carried an extended news
item detailing the local constabulary's use of an ANPR system on the M4
around Bristol.
The police force's main justification for use appeared to be that the
system enabled them to detect and apprehend uninsured vehicles.
Hmmm.......my company car doesn't appear on any insurance database of
legally insured vehicles as it's...

Am I living in a black hole.......................... by
Steve
.................... where the sale of goods act doesn't apply? It seems as
if the shopkeepers of Stratford (East London) think the act doesn't apply
to them.
Various excuses have included:
"You'll have top speak to the manufacturer" (Argos)- The ironic thing was,
besides the retailer being responsible *not* the manufacturer, in this case
the goods were made under license by, er, Argos.

Carphone Warehouse owe me money by
neutron
I have been trying to get money back from Carphone Warehouse since October,
it is money from an old account which was supposed to be closed but they
kept taking direct debits for a few months after.
First spoke to them in October and they said they'd refund me (it's about
£80). Waited and waited, but nothing, so 3 weeks ago I called them again and
after being passed around 4 different...

Telephone recording for "training and quality purposes" by
dg
If a company gives a warning that "calls may be recorded for training
and quality purposes", does that mean that the recordings can not be
used for any other purpose?
I presume that if recordings are for a certain purpose, then the caller
may be careful about what is said based on what the recordings will be
used for. He may say things which he otherwise would not if the
recordings will be used...

Driver fined £80 for gesturing at speed camera by

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006050295,00.html
Haven't the idiots got better things to do than send two cops to a person's
home to fine him for this when most of us can't get plod to attend for real
offences? They won't come out for car theft or vandalisation at all in the
Thames Valley and I doubt it's better in other areas but they can find time
for this sort of crap, taking a person...

witness intimidation by

Hi,
Got a friend who has been asked to be a witness for a Dad who is
contesting an application for permanent 'removal from jurisdiction'
(his ex-wife wants to emigrate with his kids and new husband to
Australia).
The other party got wind of the fact that this guy had been asked to
make a statement and are threatening him with a libel/defamation etc if
he writes his statement. What he wants to...
