Self-cert mortgages query by Spamhater
Concerning the collapse of B&B, whose collapse the BBC News said today was 'partially caused by the slowdown in mortgage replayments by buy-to-let mortgage-holders', could those who lied on self-cert motgages find themselves facing criminal charges? -- The best answer to feminism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scold%27s_bridle

What right does the guvment have to nationalise Bradford and Bingley? by DVH
In terms of reacting to bank failures, the contrast between the US and UK political systems is interesting. While the US Congress is thrashing out the limits to Treasury action and how the 700 billion dollar bailout will be scrutinised by the peoples' representatives, the UK Treasury has no such problems. Under the Banking (Special Provisions) Act 2008, introduced to deal with Northern...

Broadband speeds by Saint Wobbly and Son
What is the current situation regarding ISPs claimed broadband speeds? I'm supposed to get 'up to 8 Meg' but at times don't get above 100kbs! It NEVER goes above 2 Meg. Obviously 'Up to 8Meg' doesn't mean 'Up to 2 Meg'. Or does it? A line check AFTER the '8 Meg' line upgrade shows that the line is not got for any more than 4 Meg anyway. This is something that the ISP would have known before...

Official Secrets Act 1911 has been wrongly interpreted by Michael John Smith
Legal arguments have been published, which claim that the Official Secrets Act has been wrongly interpreted ever since it was put on the statute book in 1911: http://cryptome.org/osa-wrong.pdf If this argument really holds water, then all the prosecutions under the OSA, including my own, were brought under false pretences. Perhaps a few of the legally knowledgeable forum members would like to...

AOL slowing down the world by Turk182
For at least a week AOL has been working at at leat one tenth of the speed it should. As I only get a lousy 512k anyway due to location, this means I am almost back to dial up speeds at time. After a few efforts speaking to their 'technical support', I have been told it was my fault. "You must NOT use p2p with AOL I was warned. WHAT! Is that

Low bid auctions by johannes
Certain radio stations claim to run "auctions" where the lowest (unique) "bid" wins e.g. a car or a laptop. My problem with that is that they use language from auctions to entice listeners, when in reality it's a lottery.
