Police priorities (New thread for the luncbox debate bit) by

So how and who now debates Police priorities?
Five years ago, I used to be able to ring the local Nick (a mile away)
direct and if they wern't busy they swarm round your broken in car and
circuling the estate like hawks.
Three years ago they disabled all local nick numbers and you had to ring
the area nick and get put thru if you were lucky.

Huntley & Carr - Habeas Corpus by
Brian
Another four week delay - but why the 12 months so far? When does Habeas
Corpus kick in?
To continue to bring suspects before a court at regular intervals to
satisfy the letter of the law is hardly justice.
The state could presumably lock up anyone who becomes tiresome and delay
their trial ad
infinitum - sounds familiar to the antics of that poky dictatorship whose
name escapes.

Patient rights - NHS? by
Derry Argue
Fictitious case based on fact
Patient (not me!) learns of a new surgical procedure which could eleviate
his condition far better than the more usual one offered by his local
hospital. Quicker, shorter recovery time, fewer side effects, and proven
track record. However, the consultant he is sent to by his GP refuses to
refer him to the hospital doing this new procedure, even for an initial...

name and shame by
Rick
Hi,
I have been given really bad service by a car dealer from whom i purchased a
new car two months ago.
I would like to name and shame this establishment through the internet.
Do I risk any legal action if i restrict myself to listing what has
effectively happened to me. Also can i says something like "don't use this
car dealer". My guess would be that I can't...
any opinions are appreciated

Dude, be *very* careful how you proceed with this. You may want to
take a "meta" perspective to your entire predicament.

Call plod and tell them he is taking an unhealthy interest in children
(DON'T say he's abusing them - that would be lying).
Get you solicitor to write him a letter to warn him of civil and criminal

Six weeks ago.....that is, over the 40 day limit for them to comply....I
wrote to the department for work and pensions asking for copies of personal
data held about me in specified areas. I posted a reminder a couple of
weeks ago.
So far I have not even received an acknowledgement.
What is my next step to make them comply with the law? If I have to go to a
solicitor to take court action, can I...

Harrassment? by
Benedict White
What you need to do is keep a diary of this stuff.
Keep notes, timed dated and signed. If he has a conversation with a visitor to
your house, get the visitors details so that they can make a statement later if
necessary, or better still write out a brief note and get them to sign it on the
spot.
What a PITA. His surname is not Stoner is it?

Illegal Conveyancing by
Serf
Under the Solicitors Act 1974 it is an offence for someone who is not a
solictor or licensed conveyancer to prepare a contract, transfer or
conveyance relating to land "in expectation of fee gain or reward".
Is the preparation of such a document by an unqualified person employed by a
legal practice explicitly permitted, or is this a grey area which is
untested by the courts?

Rented garage dilemma. by
Zo
We rent a garage off the council - and have done for 20 odd years. Three
years ago the roof started leaking, which we reported. Time went by and it
wasn't fixed. On going back to the council to ak why, they informed us that
the years budget for repairs had expired and we would have to re-apply
again, which we duly did. Another year past and the same thing again -
re-apply.
We asked when they...

broken boiler update by
Fat Freddy's Cat
For those that posted advice.
The PCB on my boiler was faulty and the plumber replaced it. Cost £152+VAT
plus fitting.
Strangely enough, he was called to another Ideal boiler customer right after
mine went titsup and it was also a PCB failure.
Guess what?
Ideal sent out an engineer with a new PCB free of charge. This boiler was 18
months old, mine was only 14 but they are refusing to refund the...
