A friend of mine has recently won the auction for a car using Ebay.
There was no reserve price on the car.
However after sending the seller all his details, he has received an
email from the seller advising him that despite winning the auction he
wants another £800 on top of the winning...

Broken Boiler by

I have a nagging feeling that items can be expected to last as long as any
normal person would expect them to last i.e. a boiler's life should be

I've had a look at various dti and TS sites but genuine help or similar
experiences would be appreciated.

where to find uk gaming laws by
half_pint
Many UK bookmakers have gambling machines, which have no
legal status (ie illegal), The goverment has done nothing about them.
I wrote to the Gameing Board or whatever but they never even bothered
to reply.
Some regulation eh?
As long as the government is getting its 'dosh' it is not bothered.

Seems perfectly correct behaviour IMO.

Query on Annual Mortgage Interest calculation by

I note that some Mortgage Lenders, by default, charge their interest on
the balance of a loan at the beginning of the year rather than on a
daily basis.
For the last years of the mortgage, this can significantly affect the
true interest rate paid, in fact doubling it in the final...

Broken Boiler by

Had a new boiler installed May 2002. Cost about £700.
It is now broken and needs a new PCB (printed circuit board) which is
likely to cost in excess of £100.
I contacted the manufacturers and they've stated that since its over
12 months old they will not supply the part free or fix it since it
is out of warranty. I even tried appealing for goodwill.

Institutional racism in your language by

The origin of the definitions you cite is not skin colour. Therefore
these words are not racist - and nor is their usage. This is a common
misconception that once removed innocent words such as "blackboard"
from acceptable language. Fortunately, we're generally a bit more
enlightened these days.
The etymology of many of the words you mention is the "blackness" of
the night. A few other relate to...

Grounds of Appeal by
Gary19w1
I pleaded guilty in a court case (fraud) and was sentenced last year.
I based my plea on the evidence of the offence that the CPS showed me was from
witnesses.
All the evidence that was taken to convict me (papers and documents) i
collected back from the police officer who was in charge of the case.
It has now transpired that witnesses that gave evidence in writing were misled
by the police...
