Query on Annual Mortgage Interest calculation by
Rob Graham
The FSA will start regulating mortgages next year and will become
responsible for truthful and comparable advertising of interest rates.
But you're suggesting it's not truthful to have different ways of
calculating interest. As long as you've been told what they are there's no
untruth. In truth, borrowers don't look beyond their noses.

Question about the longevity of criminal records by
HP
Hi,
I have a question..and a whinge!
I am 35, and have a clean record since i was 17 when i got very drunk and
punched someone window out and ended up with a criminal damage charge.
I have always assumed that as i was arrested as a minor, my record would
have been wiped clean now it is 18 years later...and on job applications and
things for the last ten years i have always stated i have a...

A while back I setup a payroll utility for a client. There were changes

Leasehold Service Charge includes suspected fictitious work by
Freda
tim said
By all means dispute a bill, but to sell you will need proof that
it is sorted, so the "sue us and wait" option is not usually viable.
Took the words out of my mouth.
Here we (within certain parameters - small amounts) cheerfully let
people "dispute their bills" and not pay knowing that we will get it in
full, with interest, when they want to sell.

What are the laws about skip raiding?
Obviously I can't trespass to go rummaging around in a skip but is it legal
to take from a skip in any circumstances? I spoke to a solicitor friend who
says it's "theft through finding" and yet a policeman friend...

Utilitarianism V Deontology by
Aosmosis
A friend and I were having a conversation about the events of September
11th, and Al qaeda/Islam etc etc.An article in a paper about embezzling
caught my eye, and I just had a random thought, and was wondering about the
implications of the following:
Say if someone somewhere managed to swindle something like $500 million from
Al qaeda, thus crippling their organisation, and donated this money...

[SCOT] Scottish Law by

Hi,
To everyone interested in Scots law: maybe it would be helpful if you
prefixed your subject title with to signal to others on the
newsgroup that your message invites replies for which English/Welsh

Is making an "offrecord payment" legal re house purchase by
Monet
I have just made an offer on a small flat today of 35K, the owner asked me
to make a separate cash payment to him side stepping the buying process, for
5k, so the official "on paper" price of the house will be sold for "30K".
When I stated that this could/would need to be done through a lawyer but no
problem otherwise, (assuming a lawyer will do this) is it legal? He said he
wanted to do it to...

Tax Investigations by

My tax return is currently being investigated, hopefully there should
be nothing wrong with it.
I returned that tax return electronically, all my previous fifteen tax
returns have been returned using traditional means i.e. filling in the
booklet (and were never investigated)
Has any research been conducted into whether a higher percentage of
tax investigations are being initiated from returns...

Damage to car in car park by

A friend's car was damaged whilst parked in a pub car park, by another
driver who was leaving. My friend was not parked in a designated space (the
car park is marked out in spaces but there are areas in which to park which
are not an obstruction).
The guy stopped, left details etc and has offered £200. The quote to repair
was c.£450. He is claiming that "contributory negligence" due to the car...

I have always believed the double jeopardy provision applied only where

NRB legacy by
jane
hi, I have been reading the discretionary NRB legacy primarily with regard
to married couples whose main assets comprise the severed shares of the
matrimonial home and the debt and charge schemes that utilise the NRB.
My question is, if the will as many do, contains a standard clause( no
discretionary powers) gifting an NRB amount to the children from the first
to die, then the remaining spouse...

Parking outside property by
Bob Regis
My elderly parents live in a house which has 2 public car parking spaces (we
call it a layby) just off it.
The problem is that one of the neighbours parks his van on this space every
night, blocking their view.
The van is covered in adverts for the man's business.
We've tried to talk to the man to maybe move the van further back (not
affecting him) but he slammed the door on our face.
