Readers Digest by
Angela[_2_]
Some of you may recall we had problems with Readers Digest sending my 91
year old grandmother unsolicited books. She is partially sighted and can't
even read these books, plus she is frail and can only walk short distances
with a zimmer so had no way of returning them, but as she was frightened of
getting into debt so she paid for them, and the more she paid the more she
got sent! We...

Help on Unfair Dismissal by
en1gma
Hi there,
A friend of mine was dismissed from his employment after working there
for 9 months. At the time of his dismissal he was not given any
reason for it just told that he was being let go. He had received no
warnings at all, either verbal or written and no disciplinary
procedure was carried out. I understand that normally you would hae
to be employed for a year to take out an unfair...

ebay auction - my rights? by
lily.zsa.zsa@googlemail.com
I auctioned an item on ebay without reserve and I was unable to end
the listing. I informed the winning bidder I did not want to proceed
with the sale at the price the item reached. She intends to take me to
small claims court - what will the outcome be please. The item in
question is my sofa and the high bid was £585 and I cant possibly sell
it for that amount. Will I be fined, pay costs etc....

When can I back out from an accepted quote? by
Michael Atkinson
Back in the first week of April this year I was quoted for the installation
of a replacement boiler. At the time of the plumber's visit he indicated it
was likely that the work would be performed in April. I accepted this quote
in writing and via email. There is no mention of any timings on the letter
I signed. And no monies have yet been requested or paid.
We're now in mid-June, and I've had no...

Goth murder - Appeal by
Lard Arse
The scum who kicked a girl to death for being dressed as a Goth
have launched an appeal against their 18 and 16 year jail sentences.
Would it not be a good idea to shove an extra 3 years on their time
for wasting court time? These scum deserve every day they got.

Hard done to lads appeal by
Svenne
Some lads who got draconian prison sentences for having a bit of fun
that might have got a little out of hand are to appeal.
While playing a boxing game with a disabled man an unfortunate
accident occourred and the disabled man died. The lads were sentenced
to shocking prison sentences of between 15 and 22 years:

OT - PC hard disk cleaner utility by
Dave Baker
I just have to point you all at this cracking little utility I came across
the other day.
http://www.ccleaner.com/
CCleaner (used to be called Crap Cleaner). It gets rid of all the unwanted,
unused, redundant and temp files on your hard drive and defunct or faulty
registry entries which slow down your pc or make it try and load software
you no longer have. It gets rid of cookies and also...

Extract of Today interview between James Naughtie and Lord Carlile, 12th June, 2008, 8:10 am by
MM
Transcript by me
Carlile: The government's first duty is to protect the public from
danger. National security is an individual civil liberty to all of us.
I've just watched out of your radio car window children setting off to
get a bus to school in central London. In 2001 children were the
subject of bombs in central London. Much worse could occur. There are
now states like Iran sponsoring...

Brown wins 42 day terrorist detention vote by nine votes by
Dave Baker
Gordon Brown has won the vote by the skin of his teeth. The House of Lords
will surely reverse this in no uncertain terms.

What I find utterly repugnant is this.
How dare someone vote against their original principles and human decency to

Excluding troublemakers question by
debaser
I work for a large shopping centre. We are having problems with a small
number of trouble makers and shoplifters. We are part of a shop watch
scheme that excludes trouble makers and shoplifters.
It to be fair the exclution notice is not worth the paper its written on as
its only a civil exclusion and all we are told we can do is ask the banned
person to leave if the break the ban.
We have...

Can you believe these eejits have lost a second set of papers on a train?
This time covering fighting global terrorist funding, drugs trafficking and
money laundering.
And they honestly want us to trust them with things like I.D cards - not for

Speeding offence by
James[_4_]
I'm just trying to deal with an offence of 37 mph in a 30. When I received
the NIP, there was an offer of a 'speed choice' course instead of having the
points and fine (you have to attend a course and accept a fine instead).
I wrote back stating that I required further evidence relating to the
alleged offence before replying as I couldn't be certain that it was my
vehicle, and asked for a...

Apprentice by
The Todal
If a job applicant presented you with a CV and you established that his
claim to have spent 2 years at university was false (he left after 4 months)
would you still consider him for the post?
I certainly wouldn't, and I find it difficult to believe that any employer
would.

BP / Wild Bean Cafe public health issue by
Turk182
I travel many miles during the week and I frequently see Wild Bean
Cafe's at BP Fuel Stations. WBC's sell coffee and pastries etc.
Every cafe's places a tall plastic pastry display/help yourself unit
close to the queue where customers are lining up to pay for fuel (a
temptation). The display unit is has no doors on it so the food is
exposed. I have regularly seen people sneezing over the...
