The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) by
Alasdair
Just how independent are the Independent Police Complaints Commission
(IPCC)? How are the commissioners appointed and to whom are they
accountable? Do they make their findings and the reasons for their
findings public?

Rogue Customers who wreck lives by
Colin Peters
Last Thursday the www.roguecustomer.com website was officially launched by
MP Tim Loughton at Westminster, London.
Nigel Gray and his Team have done a terrific job in putting the website
together and it is hoped that new legislation might be proposed and adopted
which will curb the actions of criminals who wilfully and deliberately seek
to defraud honest working men/women through non payment...

Housing Corporation and crime: AmicusHorizon Group by
David Foot
The HOUSING CORPORATION is a very powerful quango that allows some memebers
with not the best reputation to operate in a very dubious way, this was the
case of Crystal Palace Housing Association in 1991 which went about
mis-representing leases to the public in the media and by any means it saw
fit.
The Housing corporation member I am referring to has many names and has new
name now: Crystal...

Sickness whilst pregnant/maternity pay/rights by
banzai[_2_]
My wife is 12 weeks pregnant & currently very sick due to said pregnancy.
She works 3 days per week and the work can be quite physical - as such she
has had to take several days off sick as she has literally been bed
ridden/vomitting. She has been with her employer for ~9 years and has had
very little time off for sickness in that period (maybe 5 or 6 days total).
If her sickness continues...

The British Fritzl by
Alasdair
Local people in Sheffield and Lincolnshire must know the identity of
the man who raped his two daughters and fathered 9 kids by them. What
would be the legal position if his identity were published on the
Internet?
It seems unfair that when he comes out of prison his criminal record
will remain secret and other potential victims will know nothing about
his dark past. Other rapists are named...

Land registry figures by
mogga
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/nov/30/house-price-index-market-value
*
The Government's official house price index, produced by the Land
Registry, has been accused of misleading homebuyers and policymakers
after it emerged that it excludes repossessions and auctions on the
grounds that they do not reflect the 'full market value' of the sale.
What is the full market value of a property...

Sale of Goods - A Result by
judith smith
I went on holiday with Thomas Cook (TC) paying an extra £84 for a sea
view.
The room allocated did not have a sea view.
I spoke to TC rep and together we spoke to Hotel - they said they
would not change the room as it *was* a sea view room - both I and the
rep said it appeared to be a "side sea view".
(A sea view is where you look out directly over the sea - a side sea
view is where you stretch...

Washing hands can make you less judgmental, scientists say
By Jo Macfarlane

Cleanliness is next to godliness, the ancient proverb says – and now
scientists have proved that the state of your hands can affect your
moral judgment.
A study by British academics has revealed that people who clean

Liability for paying relative's bills? by
Jack[_6_]
My gran has just had to go into a care home and leave her council house.
I have found a few bills in her house that don't seem to have been paid,
particularly her water bill. It wasn't her fault, she has been good with
bill paying all her life but recently has suffered from dementure.
As she has now gone into care and her only income is £21 a week I presume
they won't chase her for the...

Are the police getting out of control and accountability? by
Alasdair
I saw an item on Saturday evening's BBC TV News where a judge upheld
an appeal by a war veteran who had been brutalised by the Wigan police
in the process of being arrested for giving backchat to an officer.
The gratuitous brutality was recorded very clearly by a neaby CCTV
camera. I cannot find the item on the BBC website and wonder who else
saw it.
The police nearly always get away with...

Plod loses plot after arrest of Damian Green by
MM
On This Week on BBC Two, which finished about 30 minutes ago, both
Diane Abbott and Michael Portillo agreed with Andrew Neil and Chris
Huhne that this arrest by up to NINE counter-terrorism police officers
was politically motivated. Either that or, as Portillo said, the
police are even more bloody stupid than he thought.
We shall see. But this move is breathtaking. Cameron has called...

Bad Debts by
Mr Pounder
A good friend of mine runs a small business in the service industry; six
employees.
We have always had bad payers, but the economic situation is making things
worse.
Most of the debts are for relatively small amounts, below £100.
The accumulative total is probably in the thousands of pounds.
Is there any economic way of taking the debtors to court?
Or is it just not worth it?
