Boris Berezovsky sues Russian TV network over fraud claims by Ioan
Suggestions keep coming up in the media about how Berezovsky gained political asylum in the UK through fraudulent means, this time Russian TV network VGTRK interviewed a witness who claimed a tape used as evidence to support the Berezovsky claim for political asylum was fake. It is alleged by the anonymous witness that Berezovsky offered to pay the witness between 2 to 40 million pounds if he...

Damage to property caused by neighbour's crumbling chimney by LittleMissTerious
Hi, Hope I'm posting on the right site here? Could really use some advice right now... My neignbour's chimney is cracked and 7 months ago some of the render (about 4" x 6") fell away into my driveway. Fortunately there was no damage, as my cars were not in the drive at the time. They kept promising to repair the chimney, but have never done so.

Landlord wants to charge £20 to write a reference... by FriarTuck
Are they obliged to provide you with a statement for your rent paid? Have they a right to charge so much for a reference letter? Just spoke to a snooty agent for the lettings firm who said she would not put up with my argumentative attitude and hung up on me when I asked how difficult it was for her to write a one line letter "all paid up to date:...." I said she told me herself she knew I...

Illegal immigrants march for more rights by Gaz
kj wrote: The One wrote: "These migrant workers are hugely beneficial to the state and hugely beneficial to the economy," Yes they keep wage levels down in these boom years. Wonderful stuff.... I think you will find that it is the English employers that keep the wages down.

The Metropolitan Police & ECHG, English Churches Housing Group . The Riverside Group by You For It
The Homophobic Hate campaign by English Churches Housing Group (ECHG), Hammersmith & Fulham Council and The Metropolitan Police is still continuing - at the moment my tormentors think it is acceptable to run a Hate campaign and they do not think they have done anything wrong. The merger has taken place between ECHG and The Riverside Group - but I am still dealing with a group of people who enjoy...

unmarket police cars by johannes
If you're flashed down by an unmarked car, how do you know if it's a police car? Are you legally obliged to stop if you can't identify the car as a police car?

Police told to arrest sarcasm by Gaz
Steve Greene wrote: http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=706752007 Polish nationals are used to extremely formal police in their homeland and officers in Edinburgh will now be taught to follow suit. Maybe we should carry this idea further, it has merit, let the policing of a particular community reflect what they are used to in the country they left.

Driving License by Matt
My wife was almost hit today (at fairly high speed) by a motorist going the wrong way round a roundabout whilst my wife was on her push bike. We contacted the Police as there were several independant witnesses and they all said how 'bad' it could have been, one of them who had the foresight to get a reg number. We told them our side and the police contacted the person involved. Tonight we...

Medical negligence??? by Lyngfiskr@googlemail.com
Hi, my partner has just had a fallopian tube and an ovary removed. They were both twisted and totally consumed with gangrene. We've paid close to £4000 for scans, private consultancy and an operation, £4000 we can ill afford and have had to borrow from the bank. The pain has been agonising and recurring, rendering her barely able to stand or breathe at times. My partner has been hospitalised...

Uninsured driver making personal injury claim - is this insane or what? by Arthur Shaw
Briefly:- My wife rear ended another car a few weeks ago and it turns out the driver she hit was uninsured. Now the uninsured driver has put in a personal injury claim against my wife's insurance. Is this guy trying it on or does he stand any real chance of getting compensation? Surely he would have forfeited his right to compensation due to the fact that he was not insured?

Rent arrears by Chaudhry Nijjhar
Hi, I happen to rent my house to a tenant who had been evicted through court for not paying the rent. One of my old tenants recommended her and when she started to create problems, she disassociated from her and the words she gave me. In fact, this tenant's son is also on the tenancy agreement but he did not sign but this girl did in the presence of my old tenant.

Wonder if pubs, restaurants, and clubs will still retail cigarettes after the ban, and risk patrons lighting up on their premises and a fine?

Misprice query by Jim Taylor
Yesterday Staples had these GPS units http://www.staples.co.uk/eng/ Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=%2C&webid=386053&affixedcode=WW on their site for £0.00, with Delivery & Vat bringing it up to £3.41. I (and some oothers that I know of) ordered one thinking either we'd get them or we'd get a phone call/e-mail telling us it was a misprice. Mine arrived this morning. After getting to work one of my...

Shared Driveway Hosts by matthew.humphreys@gmail.com
Hi, We are the 1st of 4 houses on a private driveway at 90 degrees to the road. The deeds to the property simply say that we must pay a "reasonable proportion of the repair costs". Well, its time to have it repaired.

private house sales skewing the data? by hugh_j
Here is the some fairly recent data for Grange Road Peterborough. I had a look at these properties and the prices shown recently are completely unrealistic. If you believe these prices then Grange Road is one of the cheapest places in England, and it ain't. The low priced houses never went on the market, so I am guessing they are private sales between mates or relatives or something like...
