hotel guests, register by Derek Hornby
Hi all In UK,. when one stays in a hotel, one must register at check in. Is this a legal requirement, if yes under which law? Also if a couple stay in same room, do they both need to register, or just the bill payer. If they are both legally required to register it would not be easy for the hotel to enforce the the law! second bankruptcy in 15 years. How long? by Howie
Hi all. Hope you can help. There seems to be some conflict and confuson between the insolvency service webpage and their helpline regarding a particular question: If a person has been bankrupt 10.5 years ago and subsequently discharged 7.5 years ago (therefore all before april 2004) , and becomes bankrupt again now, how long is the new bankruptcy in force before discharge is granted? The...

Internet Review sites, and slanderous posting by pjwest@hotmail.co.uk
Hello, I was hoping someone could offer some advice to me concerning Internet review sites and what can be done if they have slanderous (not simply negative) reviews. The company i work for sells items though its website and we try to keep an eye on what is being posted to the larger and more widely known consumer review sites. We have noticed that some people are posting out and out lies about

Are unmanned level crossings legal? by Theo_Delight@yahoo.co.uk
With the exceptions of the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway (SI 1994/1803) and other railways specified in similar Statutory Orders, it would seem that unmanned level crossings are illegal: http://snipr.com/1n3or Railway Clauses Act 1863 (c.92) 6. Company to erect lodge at point of crossing.

What happens if defendant satisfies debt before the small claims court date ? by John Rivers
The claimant would have paid some court fees which would be non- refundable and the court date would have to be cancelled ? The claimant could not get their costs back ? Even if a CCJ was registered it would have to be removed as the claim was satisfied within one month.

google checkout by Mike Scott
Given that credit card issuers seem to be coming to regard paypal as a "cash advance", I was wondering whether they had the same attitude to google checkout. The main issue being whether use of google checkout potentially loses the protection normally expected through credit card use. -- Mike Scott (unet at scottsonline.org.uk) Harlow Essex England

Any chance of this action succeeding? by Brave New Britain
Somehow I think these faceless officials will just claim that they are "just following zer Bichard," (which probably they are). And I doubt that he will succeed in the human rights writ against the whole legal aid system - that's just the way that the government wants it to work. Anyway, why shouldn't a murderer qualify for fertility treatment? They can get children by the usual way if they are...

Inheritance tax - died in Australia by Emma61979
I am having some problems and have exhausted the HMRC site looking for the answer. I am the executor of my father's will, who died domiciled in Australia, but lived in the UK for a large part of his life. His main assets, a house and bank accounts and his will were in Australia and we obtained probate there. However he did have a couple of pensions in the UK, which in total were worth no more...

30x50ft Garden land valuation? by Rebecca
We are keen to buy the end of our neighbours garden, for garden land only. They have asked an estate agent who told them that they sd ask £25,000 as in theory it wd be possible to build on it in the future (if we bought 2 other houses, knocked them down and we got planning permission - unlikely considering 4 other houses would be within 50 ft of this land!). However, we are just after a bit of...
