Tree Protection by PDR
Sorry for the length of this - I'm trying to give all the info in one hit! I own a property in a small village in the south of England, which I let out to tenants (a family with young children). The property has a moderate plot (1/2 acre? something like that, anyway) containing a large number of trees both at the front and around the lawns at the back - possible 100 trees, most of 6"-10"...

After being declined by Vodaphone for a mobile contract ....and there is still some problem about exactly why it was declined .The retailer said Vodaphone had told them it was to do with my address...I had exactly the same problem last year with O2 as it was the flat position at my address ( or lack thereof) that caused the problem .I tried phoning Vodaphone as suggested by the retailer but...

Badly sited and sighted traffic lights by spinner
Near where I live there is a large roundabout with traffic lights on all incoming streams as well as at points around the roundabout. Some of the lights are so badly positioned/aligned that someone already on the roundabout may see a traffic light in front of him change from red to green and assume that he can no move forward. In reality the green light is not for him but is for people...

Georgie Porgie Pudding and Pie. by Lord Turkey Cough
On this day of St George is not embaressing how fat and overweight most of the English are, the fattest in Europe in fact. Does the NHS not have some legal responsibility to ensure that the citizens of the UK are not, by and large (keyword there) great big fat wobbley lumps of lard?

Correspondence with MPs - "privileged" by Jethro
Hi all, noticed our ratbag slimeball leaders are busy trying to hide the sight of their snouts in the trough from the great unwashed again ... anyway, one of the excuses ^H^H^H^H^H reasons they are giving is to protect constituents in cases where an MP writes to a third party (LA for example). This set me wondering as to what the constituent/MP relationship is, if anything, in law. There was a...

Second Car Sale - as seen? by judith jones
I am selling my mother's car for her. Should I get the buyer to sign something to say that they have bought "as seen" in order to ensure no come back if problems develop; or is this unnecessary? Or is that just going to make a buyer suspicious that there may be something wrong with it?

Fire Brigade tricks by Peter Saxton
I have just had a phone call from the Fire Brigade. They pretended that I had agreed to advertise in a booklet they are publishing. By the way they acted it was obvious that it wasn't a mistake and they hoped that I wouldn't object. I told them that I had not agreed to advertise and I objected to their scam. They pretended to be hurt by my comments but when I asked for their name they gave me a...

Girl is arrested over house-trashing party by Derek Hornby
(should Rachel be held responsible for the house damage. Not if she was telling the truth. She claimed that the entry on her MySpace internet page which invited revellers to "trash the average, family-sized house" was not written by her. Her page, she insisted, was hijacked by mischievous classmates. Possible.)

Refusing pre-installed Windows on computers by sk8terg1rl
Hi group, Most of the pre-built computers and laptops in the market today have Windows pre-installed on them. Perhaps even Windows Vista, which is a resource hog, with oppressive Digital Rights Management (limits your free usage of the computer's functions even as a legitimate licensee), remote account deactivation (so Microsoft can disable your computer remotely for various infringements - is...

SPECS camera question by leaenna_mills@budweiser.com
Drove through roadworks on the M26 this morning and observed the "average speed check" signs. Probably 3 or 4 miles of roadworks (no-one working of course, it being a Sunday) but a 40mph limit enforced by four sets of SPECS cameras was in force. I kept well within the limit but it made me wonder......... I know how SPECS cameras operate but can they mix and match the photographs?

Land Grab 2 by RMB
I have returned to Scotland from a long career in engineering in Australia. About 25 years ago I bought a piece of land, about 4 acres which I intended to develop in the future. Imagine my surprise on returning to Scotland to find that nearly one acre of this ground has been occupied and built upon. I immediately checked the land records and find I am, as I always believed, the legal title...

Land Grab by RMB
I live in Scotland. There is adjoining land at the bottom of my garden. Although the owner of this adjoining land has never been seen in the last 10 years, It is a matter of record that the land is owned by a building company. My neighbour, has taken it upon himself to 'annex' this land for his own use as a carpark. He has covered the area in nice stone chips, and now proposes to erect a fence.

Dog was 'tied up and set alight' by ivan
Over the weeks this case has created so much public outrage locally that now they've arrested a couple of people, I wondered if the police would be wise to divulge the names and addresses of the suspects. Out of curiosity can the personnel details of the suspects be withheld by the police if they feel that harm may come the accused and their families from people who may decide to take the law...
