Surely they can claim for loss of earnings that they would have got if
they had been free?

That's presumably what they have been compensated for, which accounts
for the differences between what Michael Hickey (£990,000) and Vincent
Hickey (£506,000) received for the same 18 years inside

So what about compensation for loss of freedom?

Exactly my point.

Scenario a) You're told you can't work for the next eighteen years,
but at the end of it, you'll be given 18 years worth of income

Scenario b) You're told you have to be imprisoned for the next 18
years, but at the end of it, you can receive the same amount as in
scenario a)

Tough call, huh?

Brian
