"Debbie" wrote in message ... HI, My 23 year old son cancelled an Orange mobile phone contract and took out a new Vodaphone one at a Carphone Warehouse store in August 2006. When he didn't get a bill for 6 weeks, he tried to check his bill by phone and online, and was unable to access his account. snip He wants to write a strongly worded letter to Vodaphone to do three things: (1) To sort this out so that his account is separated from hers permanently and completely (2) To arrange for her to be refunded the payments she has made (3) To request compensation for their casual treatment of his private data. Please, can anyone advise? He has agreed not to do anything until I've checked here. I'd like to know what action we should take, which particular legislation they are in breach of, and how to ensure that this doesn't happen again. For Vodafone's Data Protection Policy see: http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatc..._oss=complaint or http://preview.tinyurl.com/tt769 (this gives a preview of the URL before the person is redirected to the URL itself) "If you believe that Vodafone Limited is in breach of UK data protection law, you should put your complaint in writing to the Data Protection Manager at the address below, setting out your case. If you have any enquiries about Vodafone Limited's data protection or privacy practices, you should put your enquiry in writing to the Data Protection Manager at the address below or to Data Protection Manager, Vodafone Limited, Baird House - Second Floor, The Connection, Newbury, Berkshire RG14 2FN Nick |

Hi,
Thanks to all who contributed to my question about Vodaphone, confused identities and data protection. Identical copies of a carefully worded letter were sent off today, recorded delivery, to Customer Complaints, the Chief Exec and the Data Controller, asking for a written response in 21 days. Your advice is very much appreciated. Debbie -- Debbie posting as Debbie |

Note the Data Controller is Vodafone. See http://www2.essex.ac.uk/rm/dp/dpdefs.shtm where the University of Essex is described as the Data Controller. Also the Data Protection Act http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/80029--b.htm Having said that http://www.dca.gov.uk/ccpd/faqdp.htm#3a says that: "3. How do I make a request? You should write to the 'Data Controller' at the organisation holding your data." As per their website (and my previous post) I would also write specifically to: Data Protection Manager, Vodafone Limited, Baird House - Second Floor, The Connection, Newbury, Berkshire RG14 2FN Nick |
