This is a follow up to a previous thread. Until I can post to usenet
I'm stuck with Google I have got a job. I was told it was Temp-Perm. But the job has been advertised externally. Only after I had been there a couple of days. As it is a privately owned company there is no rule as to a job having to be advertised outside the company. I have to say that the chap I will be covering in the interim thinks I am ideal for the position. He left all the other applicants CV's on the desk for me to see. I was the cheapest interim person but with the highest qualifications which doesn't say a lot for my agent. What really bugged me was that although, as per new law, they had removed my date of birth, They had left in when I did what and where. The where I don't care about but Grammar School from 19** was a fairly good give away. Also, their timesheets require me to fill in my date-of-birth. Although on the copy I give to the client this bit is blanked out, it is visible on the top copy which they have to sign. Isn't all this making a farce of the new ageism laws? |

I do contract work and temp to perm as far as I am concerned means that there is a possibility of the job becoming permanent and one being considered - it doesn't mean that they have to appoint you. I am afraid that you were appointed because of the rate that your agent gave ie the lowest - the fact that you had the highest qualifications might be also of interest - but your rate is probably more likely to be the deciding factor. Once I have been told by an agent that another person was appointed because although there rate was higher they were better qualified. Presumably all the people put forward were qualified to do the job, so that no doubt the lowest bid was accepted. If you are going to complain about the date that you attended school being left in, one could also say that about one's career history - what dates you were in different employment. My school was a grammar school until the year before I left when it went comprehensive (in 1971). So if your school is now a comprehensive I suggest that you give the uptodate name. Otherwise that will also draw attention to your age. You do have a point about the timesheet and the dob. Having said that I had an agency contact me the other day when they were adding my details to their database. It still required my dob although the consultant admitted they weren't supposed to ask it. Nick |
