Default Passport countersignatories number

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know when this rule came into play-that countersignatories
on passport applications must supply their own passport number?

Also does anyone have an 'older' passport form from 2005/2006 that
they could scan section 10 (countersignatory section) into and upload
it to see if it was a requirement then?

All the best,

-Ben

I am pretty sure it was before 2005.
Robert

The thing is there is no statement on the IPS website that addresses
this, and from forums and the like it appears to have had an impact-
GP's apparently stopped some signing of them as trhey didnt want their
passport details on others forms.

Yes, I applied for one in 2005 and I needed my referee to countersign it.

Marcus

Did they have to give their passport number aswell as their signature
Marcus?

Did he have to give his passport number? Or just his signature?

Why not change your name to your passport number so you may then
simultaneously comply with their requirements _and_ confuse the
buggers^nice people at the Passport Agency?

Or is there some prohibition against changing one's name to a serial
number?

Presumably the relevant rules and regulations are made as prerogative
instruments, which buggers anyone's chance of finding them online, and
might well prove a permanent obstruction to all but the most
determined person trying to find out what they have to say. However,
I was rather intrigued to discover a statement on the Identity &
Passport Service's passports website that *Irish* passport nos. are
also acceptable. Hmm! So the implication is either that there's a
weird hole in the system, or that the UK and RoI give each other full
access to their passport records. I'm not sure I'm too impressed with
either possibility!

Yes, I remember the form asking for it, so my boss had to bring his passport
in to work and copy the number off it.
