Question notice period with no contract

hey- i bet this is a really easy one for those in the know!

i ave been working for my present company for 14 months and handed in notice yesterday.
i have never had a contract, just a letter of employment which had no mention of notice terms. i am paid monthly.
when handing in notice i mentioned that i presumed it to be 4 weeks and asked if they wanted me to workfull notice- they said they would get back to me.
ideally i would work 2 weeks then leave- is this a)legal b)fair ????

please help- i want to have a short holiday before the new job!

thanks
tb

It's both legal and fair, however it is up to your employer to permit you
to take your vacation during your notice period.

Alwasy assuming that they can establish that she is on 4 weeks notice.

If there is no provision in the contract as to notice, the minimum
notice you must give is one week (section 86(2) Employment Rights Act
1996).

Unhappy

Why are things always so complicated?!
Please would you have a look at the below timeline- do they need to pay me for next week?

Thurs 21st- handed in verbal notice. I said I presumed it was 4 weeks notice and asked if they would want me to work all of it. SJ (employer and owner of company) said she would get back to me.

Fri 22nd- I went back to SJ and said I believed that I only needed to give 1 week as no contract, and suggested that I work 2 weeks and that my last day would be Friday 5th. SJ agreed.

Weds 27th- I took legitimate sicky. I feel rubbish. This has clearly ****ed them off.

Thurs 28th- on arrival at work SJ called me into office and said there was no point me coming in after tomorrow- Fri 29th. All very civil.

They are only giving me one days notice, but it is already within my notice period…..

Questions- do they need to pay me for next week as that was my verbally agreed leaving date?

Please help!
