Data Protection Act issue? by BobC
My dentist, along with many others in the country, has decided to finish with NHS treatment and go private. To this end he has employed what I can only describe as a "marketing company" to handle the private scheme for him. This company has now written to me with their sales blurb to get me to sign up. To do this, the dentist must have given my personal details from his

Joint Assets and means tested Care Homes by Basso
My Mother and Father in Law own a house which my FIL continues to live in, whilst MIL is in a residential home suffering from advanced Altzheimers. I posted in this group a few weeks ago about the SS trying to go against a Court of Protection order which argued that, despite the fact a lot of savings were in MILs name, they were in fact Joint savings and should be treated as such. SS backed down...

Foot Path Law. by Gorf
A Foot Path in Ipswich that belongs to the council is now used solely for vehicular traffic. The reason pedestrians no longer use it is because of the danger from vehicles. The Foot Path is classed as a Foot Path and not as Byway Open To All Traffic. What section of the HA1980 (or any other law) can I use to force the council to make the Foot Path safe for pedestrians again? If it's...

Employer Won't Pay Expenses - Submission Too Late by Silk
I've been working for my current employer for nearly 12 years and have always got on well with my collegues and management. It's a decent well-paid job, so we're not talking sweat-shops here. I have to submit expenses for things like parking, tolls and supplies etc. that I pay up-front. As it's usually around 50 UKP a month, I often save them up before submission Now, for the first time...

A friend needs to sue them, what type of body are they? Or should he be suing the Greater London Authority of which they are an offshoot? Much obliged for any assistance. María

Forced annual leave? by Tx2
I work for a local County Council, in a school in fact. I am in a 52 week support services role, and as such, I am able to take annual leave at any time, whether this be term time or otherwise. My annual leave entitlement includes 2 concessionary days at Christmas. Naturally the school 'breaks up' for the Christmas period, but as support staff, my colleagues and I are there until Friday 22nd...

photographing chuggers by anthonyJ
Visited my loal city centre today and thought to take some photos of street performers and traders. No problems till I took a shot of a guy wearing a bright yellow coat with OXFAM written on it. Out of the blue a woman appeared and asked me why I ws taking random photos of people without their permission. This was followed by an approach by the guy in yellow who insisted that I tell him...

parking by ¬Stephen Hammond
I hate Weymouth council the parking is an absolute rip off, more than £1 an hour sometimes. Any way is says on their meters no change given, you must use exact money. So the parking was 70p for half an hour on Portland Bill. I only had £1 I put that in and wasn't given a ticket, apparently thats normal. I didn't expect any change but no ticket either how ridiculous, considering the Olympic...

petition for parliament, contrary to those discussed on uk.legal by Billy H
I plan to place this on the government record at the end of the week. "This petition is intended to drive the government to press for legislation that will have the building or use of existing facilities as asylums or institutions for drug abusers to be incarcerated in. Abuse must be defined and controlled and we the undersigned believe the policy would have far

Access to building plot by christopherdcope@aol.com
Hi, I have recently been granted planning permission to a plot of land which used to be part of my house. It has taken me a long struggle; loads of money and 3 years to finally get this granted. The access to my building plot is currently an unadopted highway owned by the local council and I need to cross a 1.5 m wide strip of land also owned by the local authority. The road provides access...

Landlady won't refund deposit by Bypass
I shared the owners house for a monthly rent and deposit, which we agreed verbally. We also agreed one month's notice on either side. The owner wanted to be paid in cash. Nothing was committed in writing. The owner got into a dispute with 'others' that had a 'vested interest' in the property, so I gave notice and left. In fact, I left early. Now, the owner will not refund my deposit. ...
