Hi all, I have a red covered European Community, United Kingdom of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland 10 Year Passport, that runs out on the 27th May 2007. I was born and live in the south of England. I want to go to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, on the 24th February returning on the 3rd March. This is all before the Passport runs out, but a friend has said they may not accept...

Who owns what? by JavaEnquirer
I work for local government as a software developer on a high profile project. The system I have developed in conjunction with a more senior member of staff, is heavilly dependent upon a set of software components for which I own the copyright. I developed the components before I accepted the job. ( Even if I had developed them during my time at the council in the evenings, the copyright would...

Photographing middle aged and elderly children by Alasdair
I wanted to have a copy made of my old school photo (taken in the 1950s) showing a class of pupils. I couldn't find a photographer who was prepared to make a copy of the old "panned" photo on the grounds that although I had the photograph, I didn't have the copyright. The photographers said I would need a letter from the original photographer or possibly from the local education authority if...

Someone pretending to be my company... by Neil Pike
Someone is selling cellphones on the internet and giving out my company details - company name, registered company number, registered company address - to "prove" they are legit. He's saying he's my sales manager - which he certainly isn't - as there's only one employee - me! Might have been going on for some time, but I was only contacted by someone last night checking them out before...

Injunction. by Alasdair
A friend of mine is living in a flat on an informal tenancy agreement with the head tenant. The head tenant claims that my friend owes over £3k in rent and has changed the locks on the flat. He is now threatening to distrain on my friend's goods and sell them to recover the outstanding "rent" unless full payment is made within 7 days. My friend wants to know the following: Can the head tenant...

Rescinding on verbal agreement - any obligations? by David Wright
I recently purchased a house privately, and sold my own house to the seller of the other property - a simple exchange, although for us it was an upwards move and for her it was a downsizing. Although I used an Estate Agent to sell my own house, the lady whose house we bought did not use an Estate Agent to sell hers. However, she did offer a verbal incentive on a number of occasions,...

junk mail by jameson
More junk mail delivered to me on a Sunday morning, courtisey of the Post Office. This despite: 1. A big note on my door saying "no junk mail" 2. Various letters to the post office demanding that they stop delivering junk mail to me 3. Having filled in one of those junk avoidance forms that the post office sent to me. RETALIATION!

Unsolicted mail by Tx2
I was a self-employed Sole Trader, and worked from home, but since closing the business down, my home address is still receiving mail addressed to my ex-business name, "The Managing Director", "The Proprietor" and so forth. I return the mail as "Gone Away" but clearly, given the amount of mail received - up to 100 items per month - and the diversity of the senders, the business details have...

Buying alcohol and in general by B Bear
Yo So another debate started. Not with the guy in the shop. Got wound up by a guy in an off licence. Wasn't his refusal to serve me just that he crained his neck out, shoved his face in mine and was bloody rude. Whooa out of my space dude! So to the debate. I was in the offy to get some cider with my daughter and her friend. She (14) pointed at one brand. Guy came over and told me he wasn't...

Starving a wife out? by Gunga Din
UK husband, American wife who is here on her 2 year probationary visa. He decides the marriage has gone south and throws her and her son out. She seeks shelter in a homeless refuge until she can gather the resources to get back. Notwithstanding that the Home Office will declare the marriage visa to be in curtailment and she will have to go in any event, is there no onus upon the husband to...

How does a search warrant work? by ellanv@yahoo.co.uk
I understand that if TV Licensing detect that someone is watching television and there is no licence for the premises, they have to apply for a search warrant. When someone appears before a magistrate to apply for a warrant, is the evidence they give sworn under oath? Furthermore, could I later examine this evidence?

Regulations concerning buying/selling mobile phones by Tony Bond \(UncleFista\)
Last week my sons "friend" (aged 15) stole my partners mobile phone from our house. After admitting the theft, he told us he'd sold the phone to a mobile phone retailer in the city centre. After going to visit the mobile phone shop yesterday, they told us they didn't have the phone or any record of it. They also told us that they buy mobile phones with no proof of ownership or ID of the...

Can someone help with anything that can help to remove a neighbours overhanging Leylandii. OK here's the detail... I have a boundary 6 foot high fence ( my responsibilty from the deeds to maintain) and at the bottom of the garden the two adjacent property owners planted twenty years ago a row of Leylandii about 12-18 inches from my fence on their own land... Needless to say , prior to tall...
