Divorce Advice Required by
Lordhelpus
Hello,
I wonder if anybody can give me advice on the following.
Me and my husband separated on the 16th January 2005 because I had
commited adultery. I left the family home and took our son with me. We
sold the house shortly after and split the money equally after paying
off our joint debts.
During the house sale he got me to sign a form claiming it was part of

Overpayment accepted by
George Orwell
I was pre-paying for a parking ticket the other day, at 30p per hour, and I only had 2 x 20p. The machine did not dispense change, and had a sign which said "overpayment accepted". So I paid 40p for 30p of parking.
If my newsagent had a sign above the till saying "overpayment accepted", and I paid for a 30p chocolate bar with a fiver, could they refuse to give me change?
What is the difference?

Property valulations for Probate/IHT by
CNS
I need to have a property valued for probate/possible inheritance text.
Slightly confused by some estate agents will provide a written market
appraisal for free/whereas a valuation using a chartered surveyor is £250
+vat.
Would only the valuation from the chartered surveyor be acceptable for
probate/inheritance tax or would they accept the market appraisals?
Thanks in advance.

New project - creating customised google search by
GB
I am in the process of creating a customised search engine for UK legal
information. using google coop. The present home page for the search engine
has the snappy url of
http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=010819452991051030261%3Ae-khhshbz_e
To work properly, the search engine needs a list of preferred websites to
search, and I would be grateful for any recommendations - please just list

Electrical Safety UPS's by
martin
Hi Guys
I couldn't find relevant information through Goggle, so here goes
I was in a computer room today doing a re-cabling job and moved the plug
of a UPS from one power socket to another.
I accidentally touched the pins on the UPS mains plug and got an
electric shock from it. Note: this was the actual mains plug itself, not
a cable going into powered equipment (which I was expecting to...

Marriageable age in the UK by
D.M. Procida
I'm taking a chance and guessing that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age#Europe is correct:
United Kingdom
* England: 18, 16 with parental consent
* Wales: 18, 16 with parental consent
* Scotland: 16
* Northern Ireland: 18, 17 with parental consent
* Jersey: 18, 16 with parental consent

Land registry and neighbour disputes. by
Bill
Hi,
I am in the process of trying to quieten a rapidly brewing
dispute between my aged parents and a rather forceful lady neighbour who
is currently trying to sell her house.
An issue is starting that has caused me to start looking at Land
Registry records and it has raised a question that is confusing me.
Anyway the question I could do with a bit of advice on is regarding a
shared...

teacher, working after hours, copyright by
misterroy
Hi, I asked the person in charge of copyright at the council who
employs me as a teacher if I could produce videos in my own time for
revision related to my work, which I could sell, I need to hold the
copyright to sell them.
The answer was no, the employer will claim copyright. Seems a bit
draconian to me.
Has this ever been tested in court, I'm in Scotland.

ownership of posts... by
r.bartlett
Guy's
Who has legal ownership of the posts on webbased forums...?
Example
A regular poster requests the mods to remove his account and all 2k posts
(he has seen this request before and seen it done) However the mods just
delete his account. He is now powerless to remove his posts himself.

Beware of dogs signs, ant indemnity by having them? by
Chris
I have read two totally opposing ideas on these. One is that having such
signs on entrances to the gardens / grounds of private houses offers some
indemnity to a dogs owner that has his / her animal bite an intruder, the
other that such a sign is conducive to helping any claim an intruder may
try to bring, by showing knowledge of a potential for ones dog to bite
someone. Which is the true case in...

Bailiffs fees for traffic enforcement fines. by
Witek
Dear All,
I haven't payed a £30 traffic offense fine (not PCN), because I was
abroad for a project. I tried paying for it just after coming back, but
HMCS Oxford has returned my £45 cheque saying that they have
transfered the fine to a bailiff.
Now the Bailiff wants to charge me the £45 (30 fine + 15 HMCS) and a
£50 fee on top of it.
Apparently the £50 is just for "registering me on their...

Misuse of address by
Nick Atty
Someone I know bought a house 4-5 years ago, and had the not-uncommon
problems with being chased for debts run up by a previous occupier. He
did the sensible stuff of explaining what had happened, accepted that
debt collection agencies can be a bit suspicious of this claim, etc, and
got it all sorted out.
Recently however, he's discovered that this previous occupier is *still*
giving this...

Date an offer is effective from by
Graham
Party "A" makes an offer to party "B" on 1st October to supply a
service to last for 6 months. Party "B" does not acknowledge or
accept/reject this offer until 1st November.
Does the period of 6 months start when the offer was made or when the
offer was accepted by party "B".
I assume 1st November when both parties are in agreement over the
terms.

Further and Better Particulars with Discovery of Documents. by
Alasdair
Please, anyone. Where on the net can I find precedents for the
following applications in a County Court action:
1. Application for further and better particulars and
2. Discovery of Documents?
Do I have to make two separate applications for (1) and (2) or can
both requests be incorporated in the one application?

Money Laundering via Loot?! by
Nick
I advertised a TV and a washing machine in Loot - both online and in print.
I got many enquiries about the washing machine but few about the TV.
One of the enquiries for the TV was by email - each time asking about the
price. In fact, I chased up whether the person was still interested.
Note that I mentioned a figure of £15 and this has suddenly transmuted to
£1,500.
This is the first time...
