N244 form by David J Murray
Sorry I know its been covered before but could anyone help with some of this please? I am applying to set aside a judgement as I returned my defence form but heard nothing else until my employers received a notice to declare my earnings for a possible attachment order. I am contesting about 50% of the amount claimed as part of it was previously paid by building society cheque which was cashed...

Issues with Social Services - 2nd attempt at posting by H
A family I know appear to be being very much let down by social services. The family, a mother and two sons, all have learning difficulties. The older son has just turned 19, the younger will be 15 in September. I think the older child has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy and though having no obvious mobility problems clearly has behavioural problems. The behaviour is so bad that he has wrecked...

Registering a Statutory Charge 14 Years Late by hacedion
I need some help as the Land Registry has registered a charge against my property that they claim arose over 14 years ago. To provide you with a brief background, on 11th August 2008, I received a B46 Notice of an Application from the Land Registry for registration of a charge under the Legal Aid Act 1988 or Access to Justice Act 1999. I was informed that if I wish to object to the...

Fines/Damages by Dave[_7_]
I am interested in finding out what sort of crimes might receive a given financial penalty (for an individual). Similarly I am interested in knowing what level of damages would be awarded for the same financial penalty. The figures I have in mind a - £10,000 - £15,000 - £20,000

Fraud in my company by TechieGuy
I'm the Technical Director of a software company in which I own 16.6% of the shares. There are three other director/shareholders who I'll refer to as "MD", "Chairman" and "Ops". MD and Chairman own 33.3% each and Ops owns the remaining 16.6%. My work rarely involves me having any direct contact with the financial aspects of the company but I've recently accidentally discovered that MD has been...

Topware vs Barwinska by a@b.invalid
According to the Judge's clerk, there was no Court decision in this case and there was no award of damages; the litigants reached a private, out of court settlement. Makes DL's claim look a bit strange: http://www.davenportlyons.com/html/legal_services/articles/it_newmedia/file_sharing.html

Importing Medicines by Rod
This is a question to gain some understanding of what issues apply. I would like to understand how existing companies operate and what would stop another company doing similarly. Please take 'my company' as fictitious. I want my company to import a medicine. The medicine itself is not normally available in the UK. If it were available, it would be a prescription-only product.

Probable tenant deposit scam: is it bulletproof? by hj[_4_]
Hello Your opinions would be most welcome on what may be a common little scam. Here is the scenario. Young tenants rent Leeds student property from "reputable landlord" and pay deposit. Students study tirelessly and pay hefty fees to university. Tenancy ends. Tenants scrub up house spotlessly before vacating and hand in keys.

FOI Act, SRA and the CSA by somebody
Hi, Sorry this is long. but I really don't know any other way to explain it. In 2001, following divorce, my ex-wife and I had a clean break settlement. I continued to pay child support regardless of the settlement, whether through the CSA or voluntarily, whether I was in the UK or not. At the end of '05 I received a letter from my ex-wifes solicitor

Mail Order Problems... Bit of a mess... by Tom Burton
On Saturday 30th August I ordered a part for a printer from a website, the part was new, but opened and hence was at a bargain price of £12ish as opposed to the normal price of around £80+vat The advert on the website advised that " Delivery is normally 3-5 working days for Clearance / 2nd User items" Not a problem as I wasn't planning to fit the part until after the following weekend,...

Contract of employment - Car allowance by Ian[_5_]
I'm hoping someone can help. I was off sick during my first year of employment in a fairly senior role and my company sent me a letter terminating my employment immediately but saying they would pay me for my month's notice. As part of my T&Cs I get a car allowance but they are refusing to pay me this for the notice period. I am rather upset at this as nowhere does it state in my T&Cs that...

CRB check Police smear by J123
Ahoy ! Just had my CRB check back. The Police have, after 8 years added a malicious accusation of Indecent Assault by a girl (15) whom I threatened with referal to her parents at a school where I was on long term supply. Didn't go anywhere. Details on CRB accurate but included is the statement that,' during the course of the investigation concerns were raised in relation to J123's teaching...

Destruction of a footpath in an unadopted road by Liz J
I live in an unadopted road. On one side of the road there is a pavement that is quite high. On that side of the road, the houses have very small front gardens. Two of the houses on that side of the road have lowered their gardens and the pavement in front o their houses. They have paved over the gardens and are using it for parking their cars. As the garden is so small, when the cars...

Knives, yet again by a@b.invalid
In most discussion about knife possession the chef on the way home from work defence is mentioned. Our local paper has a story that appears to indicate the limits of that defence. A was stopped and searched by police as he walked home. On the previous evening there had been complaints of rowdy behaviour from a gang of youths and police were searching the area when they noticed A walking...
