Assulted by store security by martin
What should I have done? What should I do now? Frankly I'm not too happy about what happened. Ran out between a couple of meetings to my local supermarket to get a bottle of bubbly for one of my clients who is retireing. Got the bottle and picked up a couple of quiches on the way through. Paid fo rsaid goods and on the way out the barrier alarm went off. I kind of looked round (there were...

ASDA peanuts in a pub by me@privacy.net
I went in a pub the other night and asked for a packet of peanuts - I was given a packet for 66 pence - of ASDA peanuts. I'm not complaining as they were better value than normal pub peanuts - and I assume the landlord is making more margin. I'm happy, the landlord is happy, - but would ASDA be happy? Could they stop the landlord doing this?

Landfill on Private Land by Simon Dean
Hey, Hypothetically. Someone owns a skip hire a company, and a building company, that buys derelict land, and builds a house on it. This person, in developing the house, takes some of the rubbish from his skip hire company, and buries it in the land, then covers it over.

Orange: Contract Extension by Simon Dean
Sorry for wanting another quick tip... Just waiting a call from Orange... doubt I'll get it. useles... Anyhow, I am on a 12 month contract, which, to all known points, should be expired now, which means I should be able to get an upgrade/jump ship. Not so say Orange. 1st October they say. This is because they phoned me up in March offering a Nokia N70.

Estate agents by Helen
This is a sort of hypothetical case, but is based on a real case. If an estate agent was given a full structural report, from a potential buyer, that said there was major damage to the structure of the house, due to a tree 4 foot away, do they have to report it to any other potential buyer?

Unfair dismisal? by piratescotty
My girlfriend has just been sacked from her job. The reason they gave her was because she missed the last 3 days. The reason she missed the last 3 days was because she went to hospital and was diagnosed with minor pneumonia. She asked her boss if he wanted a doctors note to prove it and he said 'no'. Is this unfair dismisal?

British Coal Corporation Compensation Claim by rr
Can anyone direct me to a forum which has members who discuss the British Coal Corporation Compensation Claims? A relative was made an offer that does not sound right so I would like to check with other miner's experiences. Any help would be very helpful - I will check the newsgroup regularly. Thank you very much. RR

Drought order by a@b.invalid
I've just been reading the Sutton drought order. It prohibits a whole load of things being done with water "supplied by" the water company. I'm just curious as to when, in legal terms, water stops being supplied by a particular water company. I haven't done the sums, but I think there's a reasonable chance that at least some of the water in my (overflowing) water butts was once supplied by...

Owed money, looking grim by R D S
Our small business is owed money by another, approx 3k. The company in question (limited) has found someone to invest in it and it seems there will be a change of name. This is worrying me as despite promises that the amount will be paid I cant help but think the old company will be dissolved before this happens. I expect the new company has no obligation to take on the debts of the old one?

Parking 'penalty', but no enforcement signs? by tx2
I have been using a railway station's car park for months now, without issue. The car park in question is huge, and it has 2 entrances. The one I (and several dozen other drivers) use to both enter and exit as a driver/pedestrian has no enforcement signs in place. However, on 'accidental' discovery today, I see there is a sign displaying fees etc at the other entrance, some quarter of a...

Retailer refuses to provide receipt upon request by nwalters2006@yahoo.co.uk
Are there any legal requirements that oblige a retailer to provide a receipt if asked for one? AIUI, a retailer is not legally required to produce a receipt for all transactions, but I was unsure how the law stands if the customer explicitly asks for one. Can anyone cite the applicable law? Is it within a consumer's rights to request for a price breakdown? Some receipts conveniently provide...
