Confiscation orders: imprisonment in default: early release? by JR
Does anyone know whether a person committed to prison in default of payment of a confiscation order (made under the CJA 1988) would be entitled to release at the half way stage. Is such a person treated as a fine defaulter (which would enable early release) or not. Any authorities would assist. Thanks.

YAMCQ (Yet Another Music Copyright Question) by Gorf
When we make our wedding videos, we pay just under sixty quid for the music licence using http://www.videolicence.co.uk/lic.asp. I've twice used P2P to get the music needed because it's not in our collection. I don't have a problem with this, but am I right in assuming that it is legal only if I do not make the music available for upload? Are there any measures can I take to prove that...

Turnbull ruling by Maxwell Turnbull
Hello! I wonder if any contributor to this newsgroup has ever heard of the Turnbull Ruling? I think that it might have something to do with a vehicle drivers line-of-sight when witnessing a RTA and the admissability of any evidence that they might present to the court. It is purely for personal reasons that I want to know of the existence or not of this ruling ( or precedent ). Of course,...

Parking by loumike2001@yahoo.co.uk
We live in a house which has a driveway on one side and an additional parking space which is not marked or fenced off on the other. Once we were asked by a neighbor if they could park in this space and we said it would be okay for today. He seems to have forgotten about the "only for today" comment and since parked there on other occasions. I'm getting fed up of having to put notes on the...

Public showing of terrestrial football matches by Simon J. Rowe
As a church we would like to show the World Cup matches on a large screen. This would be open to the public and no charge would be made. What is the legal position on this? Thanks.

placing assets in to trust by Iain
Dear Group Is a document written record (deed/transfer form etc) required to place assets (eg bank account/shares/propery/life assurance) into a existing trust, so the inland revenue recognise the asset as belong to the trust rather than the settlor? And if so what form/deed is required does it differ depending on the asset? Or can the asset be left in the settlors name and verbably informaly...

Property with Shared "Side Access" by Terry
Thrung wrote in : I am attempting to sell my freehold end-terrace property, built in the 1920s, that I purchased (with a mortgage) in 1993. The property "benefits from" a shared side-access that is a tad over 2 metres (around 7 feet, for us oldies) wide. The access is (just) wide enough for vehicular use. The Land...

Magistrates Granting Bail Pending Appeal. by Alasdair
I understand that, in many cases, magistrates are reluctant to grant bail to people whom they convict even when an appeal is lodged. Can someone please tell me under what Home Office or DCA ordinance magistrates were discouraged from granting bail pending appeal? -- Alasdair.

Hi I noticed some pic's of me and a friend on the web.....Holding fishing rods, not those sort of pics. A friend had a web site on which he put pics for his fishing business. Lo and behold pics of me and a friend on one of the...

Reduction in purchase price - affect on mortgage amount by Sheldon
A buyer agrees to buy a house for a £300k, gets the house valued, applies for a mortgage and gets accepted for a 90% mortgage ie £270k. What is the situation if, before completion, the seller offers to reduce the price to £280k in order to speed up completion? Is the buyer's solicitor legally obligated to tell the mortgage lender that the purchase price has changed, therefore giving the...

Pictures stolen from one website, put up at another. by Inger Eik
Hi all, It's the first time I post in a UK newsgroup, and if it happens to be the wrong group, please excuse, and please advise which group would be more correct. The background for my posting is as follows: I have made a commercial website for a friend, and his own and some of my photos are included in it. We live in Norway, and the site is also hosted by a Norwegian provider. Then my...

Private Parking Rights by James
Hi, I own a parking space outside our block of flats, its currently unused. Recently someone has noticed this and decided to repeatedly park in the space, despite polite notes asking them to either discuss renting the space from me, or to not park there. The space is one of a group of 9, and is clearly signposted as for residents only..

Garage Sales by maxborn555
In the US people often have what they call garage (or yard) sales where they put all their old stuff (TVs, microwaves, books, etc.) out front of their house and try to sell it. Garage sales are quite popular and are often adverstised in the local papers. Of all the years I've spent in the UK I never seen anyone do this. A friend of mine told me it might not be legal. Would that be true?

bringing my car to Cyprus by ameliacottage@onetel.com
I have just had to exchange a Kia Magentis for a Kia Carens as the Magentis was "not suitable to the purpose for which it was purchased" and have had to accept a replacement not really of my choice. (I'd really have liked a cash settlement). A a pensioner, will I be able to bring it with me when I retire to Cyprus in October. Or will it cost me hundreds of pounds? If I have to sell it here I...

vermin extermination by dimble
My neighbourhood is plagued by cats. As a result we have no birds. Last week one of these cats killed one of the two goldfish in my pond, they had been in that pond for over 3 years. Is it legal to shoot cats in my garden with an air rifle? Entice them into my house and bash them senseless with a crow bar?

Redundancy entitlement for part time worker by bachgennewydd
A relative was recently made redundant from his part time (18 hours per week) job as night porter in a hotel and received no redundancy payment. He had worked for many years for the hotel but the ownership has changed hands several times, the most recent being last year. He had no contract, and left with one week's pay and two weeks holiday pay. Does the change of ownership affect his entitlement...
