Car stolen by my son by GB
Whilst I was away on holiday, my 'difficult' son took the keys to my car and took it for a joy-ride in the middle of the night. He fortunately did not kill himself or anyone else, but he did wrap it round a lamp-post, and it looks like the car is a write-off. It was worth around 9,000 Pounds or so. He is still 16. My insurance policy would cover this loss, subject to the following...

Copyright? Use of quotations in Advertisement by Sheldon
I need to design a magazine advert for a friend's business. She would like to use various one line quotations from journals, authors, websites in the body of the advert, including a reference to show from where the quotation has been taken. Would I be able to include these quotations in the advert or would we need to obtain copyright permission? Many thanks

action in magistrates/county courts by dimble
The local university has just completed construction of a giant block of flats near my house. They are now looking to rent it. They have put a billboard advertising accommodation on the road, one meter out on the road adjacent to double yellow lines. It was there for about a week. The police and the council were notified about this and neither had done anything about it a week later. ...

Vice-Gerant in Spirituals by Bystander
wrote in message ... Does the post of the British monarch's Vice-Gerent in Spirituals, held by Thomas Cromwell from 1535, now vacant, or has it been abolished? No, I've got it. There are no duties - never were, in fact - but that's just as well because the money is crap. Well, more non-existent. I do have the right to keep...

When can non-paying tenant be removed forcibly? by Arfur Million
No response on ukl, so re-posting to uklm. This is a real-life situation, and I would appreciate any replies to the questions. One thing I did not mention before is that the tenants are French - I do not believe that this makes any difference to the legalities of the situation, but I mention it now just in case (there is no language problem). A friend of mine finds himself in an unpleasant...

A Nagging Thought ! by Terry
My wife and I are childless with few remaining relatives - and not in regular touch with those. We have assets of several-hundred thousands of pounds. We have Wills which are in the filing cabinet in my study. Ny nephews and various charities are the beneficiaries. We regularly travel together. It occured to me that if we should die together in, say, a car crash

Warrant of Execution by c.leeves@btclick.com
Advice needed: I have recently filed a Warrant of Execution against my bank, having failed to pay a court Judgement. I learned today that yesterday, on application to the court, they were successfully granted a stay, pending them applying for the judgement to be set aside. I was under the impression that I could disagree with the granting of any Stay/suspension of the Warrant before the Judge...

Buying mobile phone credit. by Roland
Today I went in to a convenience store to buy credit for my mobile phone. As my top up swipe card would not work on the shops machine, I purchased credit on a voucher, where you call and input the number printed on the receipt. However, the shopkeeper gave me credit for Virgin mobile, when I had clearly asked for Vodafone. I only noticed this mistake after paying (as the shopkeeper did not hand...

Claims against surveyor? by christopherdcope@aol.com
Hi, I've recently purchased a bungalow and, after having some improvement work done, found out the floors are uneven between rooms and the place needs rewiring. I am estimating the extra cost to me would be around £5000 - whoops there goes my whole contingency fund. I am slightly annoyed about this as I paid areound £1000 for structural surveys before moving in and also had a complete...

Bought & received goods but payment never taken... by Steve
Paid for goods with debit card online 2 months ago but just found out that the store never took the payment from my account despite sending me the goods. Can they still take the payment at any point in the future? OK OK, I know I should own up and most likely will but just wanted to know if there is a period after which they can't just take the payment without warning. What's my position? Not...

Gig tickets purchased on-line by Debbie
I ordered tickets on-line to a gig at Wembley Arena today and in the description of the seats, it failed to mention they are crap, so far at the side of the stage they're nearly behind it :( The Terms and Conditions say no refunds , exchange etc so I don't hold out much hope they will exchange them for better ones. Is it possible I can cancel the purchase through Barclaycard? TIA

Misleading Advertising? by Me
My current ISP is one of the few (if not the only) ISPs left that promoted their products as "unlimited" With the advent of MaxDSL, and subsequent revamp of product line however, they now have changed the wording slightly to say "unlimited downloads*" or, further on into the signup proces it states "Monthly usage allowance - Unlimited* " Note the asterix in both cases? This refers to a "fair...

Constructive dismissal? by
Could one of you learned and wise people giveme some advice please. I have spent the last 5 years as a senior manager in a small chemical firm which was taken over by a very large one in Jan. I transferred under TUPE into the new company. Since the transfer I have: 1) had no boss (not as good as it sounds!) while all other managers have been reassigned new line management. After 1 month of...

What to do with a Will by brian
My father has just passed away and I am executor to his will. Its quit straight forward, he had very few assests and everything goes to my mum. I don't think I will need to get a "Grant" fro the Probate Registry as most things are in joint names, if I did the Probate Registry would keep the will. What I want to know is what do I do with the will when I have completed all the transactions and...

Do I have a claim... by Marcus Fox
I am writing this simply to get the opinion of the group before I start proceedings, so I am laying out the particulars. Any and all advice is appreciated. On 10th April 2005, a guy at my work agreed to purchase a (sealed boxed) mobile phone from me. We agreed the price. He asked me to bring the phone to work immediately, and I did so. He said that he would bring the money that evening. I...
