"Harrassment" by Estate Agent by
Nick
I have had a number of phonecalls and a letter from the estate agent who I
informed two months ago that I was withdrawing my property from the market,
and placing it with another estate agent.
I had an offer on my property for 4 months up to the end of December, and
when the purchaser did not exchange contracts I informed their solicitor and
the estate agent that the property was being...

Rejection messages from the Moderator by
Nick
When I occasionally receive rejection messages from the Moderator I have no
way of knowing which message is being rejected.
As I send quite a few posts I can't tell which post is being rejected.
I have just come across a post on the group which I thought had been
rejected.
Can the system be improved to at least include the header to assist rejected
posters?

Speed Cameras - can they be proven to lie by
another MickG
Scenario.
You pull off a roundabout, and accelerate away from the roundabout. You
accelerate up to 38 mph. You then realise your mistake and slow down to 30
mph,( you are in a 30mph zone).
But you got zapped before you slowed down. So, concequently you are sent a
fine.
Opinion.

Nuisance phone calls by
Roly
I've been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for many
years and have re-registered last year, just to make sure, but I keep
getting nuisance calls from two marketing companies.
The problem is that I sometimes work shifts and need to sleep during the
day/evenings. If I'm needed urgently, I get called on my ex-directory
land-line phone. Personal calls are always to my mobile and...

A Sunny Sunday Morning at the High Court by
A Litigant in Person
Surprising at the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand the most
blatant Human Right infringement has fester under their Lordships'
noses for years. It is the public's access to an effective legal
remedy.
On Sunday, the Duty Clerk for the out-of-hours Queens Bench judge
refused to listen my legitimate plea for access to the Judge. I was
seeking urgent relief for an extremely time sensitive...

Counter-surveillance by
alexrpeters@hotmail.com
Is it illegal to use counter-surveillance products in the UK if you
believe the authorities are wire-tapping phones/houses/cars etc?
And what does the law say on any individuals who attempts to remove
them or in any way tamper with their use (presuming of course they have
been lawfully placed there)
Also, could anybody suggest who the best counter-surveillance companies
are in the UK?

Warranty starts from what date? by
a_n_onymous80@yahoo.co.uk
I am in the process of replacing a Seagate drive that failed within a
week of purchase. Understandably uppity about it now, I checked my
warranty duration. It turns out that the warranty only lasts 4 years
instead of the 5 as advertised.
I contacted Seagate about this, and they said that this is because the
warranty starts from the day the drives are shipped out to the
retailers, and not the day...

One in a billion by
a@b.invalid
Today's BBC news has a constable on it saying DNA evidence shows that
the probability of someone not being a rapist is one in a billion.
Yesterday one of the TV channels showed a documentary where I lost count
of the number of times the interviewing detective used the same "one in
a billion" phrase.
Please tell me this is just a stunt for the cameras and they aren't
allowed to say it in...

The highway code by
Nigel
I got a fixed penalty notice from Camden council this morning... for
"Failing to drive in the direction shown on a blue sign" It came complete
with a picture of me sitting on my motor bike waiting to turn right at a set
of lights, it's taken by "a camera operator who was observing in real time"
The lights are at the junction of Great Russell Street and Bloomsbury Street
London WC1. Both these...

Do I have to have transport to go to work? by
Simon
Hi,
I work about 1 hour from home, (2 hours round trip).
There are trains that go to my work but to use the trains I would first need
to go to London, (waterloo), make my way to Victoria and then go back up
again. The trip would take 2-3 hours at least, (4-6 hours round trip).
My car has been very reliable for the past year but now it has packed up.
First I took the day off, (I had no car),...

police procedure and the UK courts by
maxborn555
A friend of mine in the US was stopped by the police for not having his
headlights on and subsequently arrested for drink driving.
In court his attorney argued that state law requires headlights to be
on 30 minutes after sundown and that according to the time on the
ticket he should never have been stopped in the first place. The judge
agreed and threw the case out.
Are courts in the UK as...

I am considering taking legal action against a dentist with whom I am

dentist retired.
Having followed this with some interest, dave, it would be interesting

noise nusiance from barking dog by
Peter Crosland
Our neighbours have a dog that barks for hours. We can hear it clearly
through
the party wall. We've tried the friendly "asking" approach to no effect.
Is
there anything legal we can do about this?
Yes. Keep a detailed diary and then contact the Environmental Health
department of your local council.

Usenet libel by

Also posted in the other place:
I believe that I have been libeled a number of times on newsnet - a
number of postings made by the same individual. If it is relevant, I
believe that some of his actions demonstrate a possible mental health
problem.
I understand that the person who has libeled me has no assets -
perhaps a second hand car at the most.

Selling business by
D.M. Procida
When a business sells part of its operations to another company, what is
the status of services to customers which are already under contract?
For example, I have a window cleaning and letterbox polishing business.
People pay £100 a year (in advance) to have their letterboxes polished.
I decide to sell that part of the business to another company.
What are the customers' rights? If the new...

Sky by

I don't know what to do any more. My son took out an offer on Sky at
the beginning of last year which was 2 digiboxes at the price of one
etc. The contract is I suppose the point but was basically that both
boxes were to be at the same premises. I lived with a very techy
partner who actually wrote the software for their satellite. My son has
been accused of moving the boxes from our...

Mail received for an ex-tenant by
wirksworth@hotmail.com
I have a tenant who has moved out of my property recently and for whom
I am still getting numerous letters.
From opening some of them to satisfy my suspicions, I know they are
demands for unpaid bills, unpaid credit cards and CCJ notifications to
name but a few. The tenant also smoked heavily despite my request for
non-smokers to the agency when I began the agency, which caused me a
lot of work...

Debt repayment after 6 years? by
tx2
I (apparently) owe a former employer just over £600 in connection with
a payment that was made to me in settlement of an accident at work.
This amount owing is the wage I was paid whilst off work, and which I
(apparently) agreed would be paid back when i received settlement
compensation.
The accident occurred in April 1999, and the settlement took place in
late 2000 - I am not entirely sure of...

BBC's possible breach of EU Law by
macerata
Below is an email I've sent that covers what I am intending to write to
the European Commission about, since I believe the BBC may be in breach
of EU Law.
I am an individual licence fee payer and represent no organisation.
I would be grateful if anyone could assist me on any points of law or
anything else you consider relevant.
Thanks in advance.
