Online conveyancing by
D.M. Procida
Is there any advantage to using an online conveyancing service, and can
any be recommended?
Given my last two experiences with the ordinary kind, I find it hard to
understand how they might be worse, but I'm always wary of
underestimating people's potential for uselessness.

Bailiff Notices by
Phil Richards
Since moving in to a new property about 6 months ago, several bailiff
notices addressed to previous occupiers have been sent. Most relate to
unpaid parking tickets etc.
One recent rather boldly worded letter states "removing goods (including
motor vehicles) even if you are not in attendance. OK, I don't have a car
so they can't take that away, however do they have the right to break down
my...

Pointing to a porn site by
Alasdair Baxter
I heard a freelance website designer talking to his mate the other day. He
was very fed up about a certain client for whom he had built a beautiful
site with many alterations to text and images along the way. The client
failed to pay the price of some £1200 as agreed but said he would pay it off
at £20 per month.
The designer was very angry and said to his mate that he intended to point
the...

sales invoice query - urgent help needed by
Nigel
HI
We are moving to Austria next week and through a shipping company had
organised a container to collect our belongings on Friday. We had received
the sales invoice and a letter saying the time the container would be
coming. We paid the amount this morning by electronic transfer and then this
afternoon had an e-mail to say that the hauliers had made a mistake with the
price and it would be...

EEA Family Permit by
Marco
I am an Italian working in London and early in July I married my
American girlfriend in the US. She was soon granted an EEA Family
Permit by the British Consulate and was able to join me in London. The
only problem is that the Family Permit on her passport will expire in
mid-January and we are not sure what to do next. Back in July an
immigration solicitor we hired told us he would apply for a...

I'm not sure I understand that course of logic in the slightest.
It is not uncommon to re-mortgage in order to improve a property or
any number of other reasons.

Land Registry by
Roly
A representative from my bank asked if the purchase of my house had
been registered with the Land Registry.
I knew it was bought in 1982 and assume that all houses sold then and
subsequently would have been registered.
Is this true ?

Leaving name and address? by
News Admin
Dropped into a well known National chain of stores today to get the
tracking adjusted on the front of the car. All well until it comes time to
to pay. At this point I am *required* even though I'm paying by cash to
supply my name and address details "for their computer" which cannot
proceed further without it. I refuse, as I invariably do as I'm sick of the
piles of junk crap I get through my...

Business expenses by
cupra
If I've accrued some business expenses (directly related to my job function,
and provisioned for in my contract), could the payment of these (entirely
reasonable) expenses be refused due to an unmentioned time limit for
claiming?

Ed & Will & Emmer & young George by
D.M. Procida
As you are no doubt aware, Emmer has finally confessed to husband Will
that baby George is not actually his son, but the progeny of his no-good
brother Ed. Ed and Emmer, of course, seem to think they are going to
have a new life in Australia with George.
Since Will is George's legal father (if not his biological one) how far
can Emmer take the boy without Will's consent? If the child does...

More School-related Madness by
Steve
Just had a phone call from school, can I come in and remove my=20
daughters earrings or bring in some plasters to cover them for PE.
What's the legal standing here? Is this the Law or merely a school=20
rule? Should the school provide plasters?
Aside from that how silly is this, this sort of crap is driving me mad...=

Any thoughts? by
Comfortably Numb
I read a little about this in a car magazine and wondered what other people
thought about it. Personally I don't see how, even if the two cars were
racing, a driver can be held responsible for the death of another driver
and/or passengers in a separate car unless involved in some sort of
collision or it was proven that one driver deliberately ran the other off
the...

SENDisT by

I have an SENDisT hearing next week about my son's education. (The usual
sort of thing - we think that he cannot survive in mainstram education, but
the LEA do not want to pay for an alternative.) Fortunately, we will be
represented.
I have read the literature from the trbunal and viewed their video.
My wife and I will get our views down in writing, so we can answer questions
off pat and will...

Raising money for my son to get on the Housing ladder by
Fred Smith
Mother wrote:
Slightly related. Some people find it better _not_ to pay off the
mortgage entirely, leaving the bank/building society holding the
deeds. Leaving 50 quid outstanding, and paying interest on that works
out cheaper than paying a bank to store your deeds. Yes, I am a tight
old git.
The problem with having them store the deeds is that they might still
charge you to see...

conflict of interests by
aiguru@lycos.co.uk
How does one oppose a solicitor acting in conflict of interests from
representation of a claimant in a high-court case. (In this case the
solicitor is a witness in a dispute between two parties but is
representing the claimant and not the defendant).
Can it be done at a case management?
What kind of documents need to be presented and to whom?
