OTOH it is a question relating to the prevention of criminal behaviour, and so I believe should be given some latitude, though a parenting group may be a better choice Anyway ....

A 13 year old child stealing from parents by Rachie
wrote in message ... I have a serious case of this. Can anyone offer any suggestions? The stuff is probably traded at the school playground. However some of the items missing are of no value; they date back to my childhood (sentimental value only, to me) so would be disposed of to punish me. The boy...

Sentence delayed for assessment - how long ? by Daytona
How long can sentencing be delayed whilst assessment takes place ? What is involved in psychiatric assessment ? It relates to a case I was following - "But Cambray was not in court to hear the verdict against him as he is at a psychiatric unit undergoing assessment, Portsmouth Crown Court was told." Bizare rental situation by a
Some things you just can't make up. In September 2002 Person A views and rents a flat from Person B. The contract is fairly informal, says "Flat at xxx" as the description and how long since lapsed into a whatever it is fixed term leases lapse into. In January 2005 Person B agrees to swap flats with Person C, because Person C already has 2 flats in the same building and would like them both on...

T.U.P.E. by Eamonn
My wife's department is being taken over by a different company and her terms are being held under TUPE regulations. They have put a clause in her contract stating that a benefit currently enjoyed (private healthcare) may be withdrawn later if it proves economically unviable (ie they can stop it and trouser the profit). Can anyone advise how long she can insist on keeping the benefit under TUPE...

Housing and Anti Social behaviour by News.Individual.NET
I am reg disabled as is our daughter. We have four children in all. We have suffered a lot of anti social behaviour from neighbours on both sides of us and having spoke to neighbours further down the street no-one has ever lasted longer than 12 months in our property. We have a chap next door who, at 2am, was threatening our children banging on the wall etc and trying to get in the house. We have...

OT: Nominators needed by Mark Goodge
I have half a mind to stand for election to the UK Usenet Committee this year. To do that, I need four people who are prepared to nominate me. If anyone here is prepared to act as a nominator (you don't have to do anything much, just allow your name to appear on my candidacy form and then confirm when asked that you are indeed nominating me), then I'd be grateful to hear from you. You can email...

Power of Attorney by John Briggs
Yes, I know one should get enduring power of attorney for one's elderly parents, particularly when they start showing signs of dementia, but what can one do when they not only refuse to give this, but deny that there is anything wrong with them? Does anyone have any practical advice? -- John Briggs

Problem with US Art Gallery - Can I take them to Small Claims court from UK? by Ian R
In June of this year, I purchased a drawing from a New York art gallery, for the sum of $170, plus $80 for insured UPS delivery to the UK. When the parcel finally arrived in the middle of August, I was aghast to see that the cardboard tubing had suffered considerable crushing damage in transit. The sketch inside had also suffered creasing damage, which although repairable, angered me...

Early application for car tax disc by Stephen Mawson
I shall be abroad with my car from October 6th until November 7th, a period that includes the expiry of its annual tax disc on October 31st. This situation is covered by the DVLA website which says that "you may apply for a new disc up to 2 calendar months before the existing disc expires..a DVLA Local Office." So today and therefore well within the 2 months specified, I went to the DVLA...

Bank overcharging by Robert Tracey
I recently read a report in a Sunday supplement about someone taking The Abbey to court for overcharging when sending letters to inform customers that there were insufficient funds in their accounts to pay Direct debits etc. The report said the Abbey settled out of court. Did anyone read this and which paper was it in. I through the paper out by mistake.

Returning goods without receipt. by Robert Tracey
I recently returned a faulty radio purchased from a leading supermarket the previous week. I did not want a refund, only an exchange. I had an independant witness to verify the purchase but was told by the store manager that I must have a receipt. How do I stand legally.

A 13 year old child stealing from parents by Colin Wilson
IANAL (or parent for that matter) An analogy i`ve heard might be worth trying in conversation sometime - not as part of an "I don't trust you" slanging match (which you appear to have done very well to avoid so far !) "Trust is like a delicate object. Once broken, no matter how hard you try to fix it and make it right, it will never be the same again, and everyone can see it."
