SOGA Question as applies to incorrect fitted wardrobes by
Mark
Hi,
I would be grateful for some help about this issue as I have really
reached the "end of my tether".
We had a fitted bedroom designed and supplied by MFI earlier this
year. We gave them the measurements and they designed and supplied
the units in flat packs for me to fit. During the fitting I
discovered that the units when fitted were longer than the room! This
fact is not in dispute. My...

electoral register question by

Hello,
It used to be that you could get copies of the electoral register and
I heard that celebrities would not vote because stalkers could track
them down from the register, but I don't know if that's true! I
thought that by law you had to register? Surely you cannot exempt
yourself because you are a spice girl?

Yet another Will question by

That should be easy enough.

Sole executor? by
Fred
I am sole executor in the will of an elderly relative who is currently in
a nuring home. There is no property in the estate. Will I need the services
of a solicitor, assuming the instructions of the will are straightforward?
Thanks for any advice/comments.

When can a speeding fine be removed from a licence? by
Chrisssssss.........
I have looked this up on the DVLA website but find the information
confusing. Some paragraphs suggest that they stay on a licence for three
years, and yet others suggest four years!
Can anyone clarify when each actual speeding offence does not count towards
the dreaded 12 points ban?
Thanks, Chrisssss........

wills - disinheritance by
aiguru@lycos.co.uk
I've been reading a thread on this group that discusses the "moral
issues" related to cutting potential beneficiaries out of a will.
I have some practical experience and feel able to offer advice.
Forget morals. Think of what the practical consequences of your actions
will be before you act.
If you cut somebody out of a will then there will be trouble for those
you intend to benefit UNLESS you...

Adoption age limit by

Simple question, is there a maximum age at which one may be adopted?
Harder question, are there any downsides to being adopted? Presumably it
makes inheritance easier.

Deputy Chief Constable Robert Ovens of the Association of Chief Police

Possible breach of tenancy agreement by landlord by
chris@cjx.com
I am renting a large house from a private landlord on an assured
shorthold tenancy.
In February of this year, a car crashed through the wall causing a
large amount of damage to several rooms. Although the landlord filled
in the hole in the wall on the day after the accident, he has not yet
made any other repairs despite repeated requests. Despite having
buildings insurance, he is trying to claim...

Employment Law Breach of Contract by
My partner was offered a contract of employment with a major bank which she
accepted. The contract was only conditional on satisfactory references. She
was told verbally that she must have a bank account with the same bank into
which her salary would be paid.
Although my partner has a good credit rating which we have verified with all
three credit agencies, no CCJs and has two existing bank...

Arrest - Witness Statements by
Mike
When the police arrest somebody "on suspicion", do they have to show the
arrestee any witness statements they have? If so, at what point -
immediately (they're available); before interview; before charge; or
only if requested?
Also, can the police *require* a witness to make a statement?

Allocation Questionnaire - Help Needed by

I'm attempting to complete an allocation questionnaire but I'm a bit
stuck on a couple of the questions.
In part 'E' (Trial or Final Hearing) how does one estimate how long the
hearing will take and what are the consequences of getting it wrong? Is
it better to err on the high or low side?
In part 'F' (Proposed Directions) what type thing should be listed?
Exchange of Witness Statements? ...

Utility companies and retrospective billing by
Ali Akbar
When I asked someone who is allegedly in the "Directors' Office" of
a certain (nameless) utility company if they were really allowed to
claim money allegedly owed over six years ago, the reply was that
they were. I asked the person to put that in writing and, to my
astonishment, she did.
This is what she wrote: "Public Utility Companies were historically
exempt from the six year statute of...

At the beginning of August I placed an order online for some small computer,

Having used the company before I was quite happy to give them my details.
My account was promptly debited and then...nothing. No email, no delivery,
nothing.
I sent a few emails asking where my order was...still no replies, no

Insurance company deductions by
Bettster
Hello,
My mother had one of those fixed term life insurance policies which pays a
sum at the end of the term if you don't die. The company closed all their
local offices and went to a central call centre only solution. This made it
difficult to make the payments (no collector, no local office to pay at,
won't take payments from credit cards etc), so mum decided to surrender the
policy.
The...

Neighbour and disabled access ramp by
Allen
My Father had a ramp built at the front of their house for my disabled
Mother's wheelchair.
They were on very good terms with the neighbours and took up 6 inches of the
neighbours garden for the ramp.
Fast forward 9 years, the original neighbour moved those 9 years ago and new
ones moved in.
Now these new neighbours want some recompense for the 6 inches.

Do petrol stations HAVE to display prices? by
Alan Holmes
So that you can see them before pulling up at the pumps.
There is a petrol station near me, who always overcharge, but
the recent price hikes have resulted in the cost of fuel at
this place being 104.9, but as the indicators only have three
figures, they were unable to display the price.
I was under the impression that the law required petrol
stations to show the prices clearly.
