Dangerously Installed Street Name Sign by
no@spam.here.invalid
I've just seen a Street Name Sign installed in the most dangerous of
places. It is perfectly situated to de-capitate some one sooner or
later. Given the way the sign has been erected, it seems most likely
to hurt of maim the young or elderly.
My questions to the ulm panel are, who is responsible for installing
street name signs in England and Wales ? Is there some guidance they
have to follow...

What rights do I have over access to my property? by
Alan Holmes
I frequently have my driveway blocked or partly blocked making
it difficult to drive out as visibility is drastically reduced.
How can I stop the anti social people who are doing this?

Assymetrical terms of notice in an employment contract by
nagsman
We have just been through this with my daughter. She gave her three
months notice to expire on 14th of August. The company did nothing
about replacing her for 7 weeks after she had given notice. The
Company she is joining wanted her to start earlier than arranged so we
consulted a solicitor.
We were told that the fact that the Company required 3 months notice
indicated that they felt the role...

Family law question by
brennig
I have a friend, married but living apart from spouse.
Is there a formal notice or notification of seperation that my friend needs
to put before the courts because at the moment bills (etc) are still in
joint names.
Details: There are no children involved. Both (former) partners are working
and financially independent of each other. The usual grounds for divorce do
not apply, I believe this...

Commercial lease by
a
A friend has just taken out a shop lease. One of the terms is allegedly
that after the lease expires he is responsible if the subsequent tenant
fails to pay rent.
This sounds absurd to me, since he has no control over who the
subsequent tenant, if any, is.
Is this type of clause usual or enforceable?

Distribution of personal details by
BrownIssue
I had an email this morning saying my account at an online forum had
been transferred to another bigger better service. To activate it I
had to go to this new link and enter my userid and password.
Big deal.
However, the original online forum was one belonging to a UK computer
magazine publisher. I had registered with that about four years ago
and then never used it - I had forgotten all...

Manslaughter, not murder - but no body by

How does this work?

and yet the husband gets convicted of manslaughter.
I can understand the principle of charging someone with murder in the

Car insurance question by
Chris Street
Hypothetical question from a car discussion group.
Person A takes a car, fits a larger engine and informs DVLA of the engine
size increase and new engine number. The new engine is a performance
version of the standard 2 litre engine.
If he simply says to the insurers that it's this reg number and the
insurers come back and say it's a standard 2 litre Focus and not an ST170
then he reckons he is...

ADVICE: Power of Attorney, Scotland - Bank Account emptied and closed by
Steve Talbot
Details to best of my knowledge are;
My wife's father and brother have been appointed " Power of Attorney" over
her grandfathers (fathers-father) financial affairs. This includes the bank
account of the grandfather, who is now in a nursing home. The bank account
included the funds from the sale of his house and this was done to pay for
the nursing home fees.
Helpfully, it has just been...

Use of LTD by
Mike Granby
I know limited companies are required to use an appropriate ending to
their name to indicate their status (eg. Ltd, PLC etc.) but can a
non-limited company or partnership use these abbreviations even if they
do not have that status? In other words, can a sole trader call himself
XYZ LTD without being a limited company?

Are restocking fees for returning items valid? by
Random Observer
Hello. Suppose one wants to return an item bought over the internet,
within 7 days. I have noted how some retailers say they will charge a
restocking fee (highest I have seen so far is 15%) for returns. This is
based on their T&C. Is this an unfair term?
Thanks.

Vinyl Floor Disaster by

1. We choose & ordered vinyl for our kitchen floor. Arranged for
fitting at 9.00am, July 26th.
2. Fitters turn up at 4.30 pm and I leave them to fit vinyl.
3. One hour later they're finished and I go to take a look: "Oh
hell, that's not the pattern we ordered. We would never have ordered
faux wood block."
4. Pattern number on our estimate & invoice agrees with what was on
