Executor along with sisters, can partner come to meetings with me? by
H
Thank-you to all who answered my query about tax advantages re. living
in mother's house once she's died. I would be grateful for your views
on the following:-
I am an executor along with my two sisters. I asked if my partner who
just happens to be a chartered accountant could come with me to the
initial meeting with the solicitor and was told in no uncertain terms
by one of my sisters that...

If one is recieving Housing Benenfit (or other benefits), I assume this
info is not reported to the credit reference agencies and banks, etc,
cannot discover it when they run a search on your credit history.

Untaxed, uninsured car by
the Omrud
A friend of mine died a few weeks ago and left his car on the road -
the police took it away and have now released it to his wife, who
doesn't have room for it and can't sell it until Swansea have done
their stuff (plus, it needs a serious valeting).
So I'm storing it for her - it was delivered to my house on a low
loader and it's standing in my garden, on the space where I used to
keep my...

Distance selling: any rules on when payment should be taken? by
Random Observer
I was recounting my recent incident with an unscrupulous retailer where
payment for goods was taken and the goods were not delivered (23 days
hence and counting...)
I thought that all this hassle could have been avoided if money was
only to be handed over once the goods exchanged hands between the
seller and the buyer. I remember being vaguely told by a friend that
legally, money is only to be...

Only 3 years for killing someone? by
Random Observer
I was exasperated at the length of the sentence meted out to a 16 year
old youth who killed another person, and later bragged about it. With
the youth's history of troublemaking, surely the sentencing could have
been more harsh? What made the judge decide that a 3 year sentence was
appropriate?

The house is in the man's name but the local council send the
council tax bill to both husband and wife. This is not challenged
and the bills are paid.
Now, the council say there is a small shortfall of some 200ukp

Accepted job but wanting to decline? by
Ken
One of my family has been offered and accepted a job but not starting for
another 4/5 weeks. Meanwhile an earlier job she applied for has arisen and
she is being told there is a good chance she will be offered this second
job.
The second job is around 35% more salary and a job she prefers but she is
now worried if she gets offered the second job how to handle the one she has
accepted.
It is a...

Advice on Divorce issues by
RedHook
I have recently discovered that my wife is having an affair, although
she will not admit to it.
My understanding is that I cannot petition for Divorce on the grounds
of adultery unless my
Wife admits to it. If this is the case - what other options do I
have ?
Also, I would be grateful for some advice on where I stand in relation
to our children and the family home

Bailiffs by
born_again_surfer
Hi
I recently fell behind with my council tax due to a change of
circumstances to the sum of =A3199, i think a court order was in place,
anyways the council wrote to tell me they had put the debt into the
hands of the Bailiffs.
Now I accept full responsabilty for allowing it to get this far.
I was told by the council that if I contact the bailiffs before they
visit I can save some part of the fee...

Transfer form TR1 difficulty by
Rich
I am filling in the TR1 transfer form for transfer of a whole title.
It is land that I am purchasing for =A325000 so no stamp duty is
actually payable. The desk aid provided by LR gives no examples for
filling in the Stamp Duty (1st section)
The following are the 3 items I am unsure of:-
(Box1.....) It is certified that this instrument falls within category
(box.....) in the schedule of stamp...

Section 20 Rechargeable Works by
Andy
I wonder if anyone can help me please?
In 2000/2001 the ex coucil flat I lived in was fitted with new windows.
The Section 20 Notice had been properly issued and we were all happy.
The works were completed January 2001.
In June 2002 we received a notice from the council informing us that it=20
had now incurred costs for the scheme. This was to comply with Section=20

Public footpath and liabitliy by

Dear all, could anyone advise me about my legal responsibilities re a public
footpath that runs through my garden.
A number of ramblers, individuals and groups, walk through the top part of
my garden along a footpath that is in one of those 'Walking in the Peak
Path' books. My very enthusiastic and friendly dog generally rushes up to
all these visitors barking and full of excitement at the...

showing a film but not for profit by
Paul Dean
Hi,
I know WANL, but I wonder if you have a view on the following. I've been
reading the legislation, and I think I'll be OK, but...
I want to show a copyrighted film in the African bush using a digital
projector and charge, say, 50p or a quid entrance. Obviously this isn't
for profit - proceeds will help fund a local AIDS project (a charity) and
HIV/AIDS prevention adverts will be shown...

becoming self employed by

Hi,
I apologize if this is not the appropriate group to post to..
I work in London in IT as a programmer, and I would like to quit my full
time job to become self employed, doing IT contract work (programming,
support etc) for agencies and also with my own clients.
Can anyone tell me the legalities involved are, as far as setting up my
own company, or what my options are? or where I could find...

I wonder if I have I understood previous postings here correctly. As
evrything at the Land Registry is electronic, I don't need Halifax to
despatch my deeds anywhere, so can avoid this charge. Am...

Opening a company bank account - concerns and queries. by
Billy
Hello,
I recently created a company limited by guarantee. Companies House has
all relevant documents and I have the certificate of incorporation, etc.
Now I want to create a company bank account. I applied on line with
Bank of Scotland, was accepted, and received the forms to fill in and
take back to a branch with identification.
1) However, there is a problem. Since I am the Director of...
