Items dumped outside a charity shop by
networkrail@mailinator.com
I have been curious about this since I saw a load of items dumped
outside a local RSPCA shop.
If I were to take items that someone has dumped outside a charity shop,
would I be committing a crime? My guess is that I would not, as the
items have been dumped, i.e. the owner does not want them.

Licensing Act 2003 by
gbh
A long established public house nearby has applied to the Licensing
Authority to "Vary" a Premises Licence under the Licensing Act 2003. But
according to Section 34 of the Act, Variation of Licences, the Applicant
must already be a holder of a Premises Licence. This seems very unlikely
to be true in this case.
I understand from the Authority's leaflet explaining the new act that
existing holders...

Hospitals and DPA by
Rai Lowani
Hello,
I was wondering how people go about checking if their relatives have
ended up in hospital. Surely the DPA prevents the disclosure of this
sensitive personal data.

Large unattended plastic bonfires - can anything be done? by
Quiet \(ish\) Life
(Second attempt to post this - sorry if it arrives twice!)
Hello - our persistently novel neighbours have a habit of burning their
rubbish. Well, fair enough - there's a skip hire firm about thirty feet
away, a council tip five minutes drive away, they've got loads of vehicles
and the council picks up regularly. But fair enough - they like to burn
rubbish. Garden waste I wouldn't mind, or...

Sounds more like a "Rip off fee" to me. If you challenge it they may well
back down. If there are deeds then they are your property and they have no
justification for such extortionate charges. In my expereince Halifax are
past masters at this...

Is it illegal to sell or buy organs in the UK?
What law covers this? What organs are listed?
Would I be allowed to leave the country to sell an organ?
No jokes about wurlitzers please :-)

What is a "joke"? by
Random Observer
I read an article in the news today about a reporter from a comedy
programme squirting a celebrity's face with water, in an apparent joke.
The reporter may be charged with assault after the celebrity did not
take it so well.
In previous sexual harassment lawsuits I have read about, the
prosecution tends to paint gender-related jokes as part of the
harassment.
While it is impossible to tell...

Photographic "modelling" by
Bob C
A friend is involved in historical re-enactments and someone has taken a
photo of him at a public event, and is not selling it for profit. The photo
is wholly of my friend and he has not been asked to sign any release forms.
As this was a public event, is the photographer within his rights to do
this, or does my friend have any redress?
TIA

Unclaimed Entitlement and Genealogical Researchers by
londonblues
Since my father died a few years ago, I have frequently received
letters from a genealogical researcher who claims to have found an
unclaimed entitlement left to my father (and now me). He is offering
his services on a 'no win, no fee' basis, but if the claim is
successful, he will take 40% of the capital as well as 40% of any past
recoverable income. After initially contacting him when sorting...

Any Inheritance Tax Advantage after living 9 years in mother's house? by
H
Hi,
My mother has just died leaving her estate to her three daughters of
which I am one. I have been living in her house with my young son for
nearly 9 years. Most of this time I paid her rent and bills etc.
However I gave up work a year ago and have spent this last year caring
for her so stopped paying her rent as I had to go onto Income Support.
My question is, is there any tax advantage...

Waiting times for an undelivered order before taking action? by
Random Observer
Hello all. I placed an order with an online hobby shop for some
materials, on 24/6/05. I received an order confirmation email on the
same date and 3 days later on 27/6/05, =A357.88 was withdrawn from my
account (the correct sum).
I sent them an email on 29/6/05 asking them if everything was alright
or if there were any delays with my order. I have not received a reply.
It is now 4/7/05 and I...

Our house is a semi-detached with a road running alongside the house. The
road is separated from the house&garden by a pavement (alongside the road)
and a strip of council land (between pavement and our property).
Our garage is at the bottom of our garden and we own a strip of land that
links us to the road (well as far as the pavement). This section of of our
land is in front of an existing...

Injuries to dog. by
Mike
A few quick (I hope) questions.
Scenario:
A 14 year old girl is out walking her (parents') dog. She and the dog are
attacked by 7 dogs running loose on a public highway. The attacking dogs
were being exercised in a field with a three bar fence (the dogs could
easily get through). The girl was knocked over but otherwise physically
uninjured; her dog was badly bitten and required veterinary...

taking son on holiday by

at our last visit to court to have an exciting order changed, my ex agreed
for me to take my 3 year old son on a skiing trip in January 2006, the trip
has since been booked. Once she knew Id booked it, she told me I cant take
him. Obviously this is through shear vindictiveness, something she has shown
throughout my access struggle and something the family court judge
recognises.
My question is...
