Gambling debts by
phil hunt
The other day I was having a discussion with a friend. I said that
gambling debts weren't enforceable in law; he said the law had been
changed and they are. Who is right?

Lending money accross borders. by
Simon
Hi,
We had an employee who borrowed £50.000 from us some time ago.
We are not a financial company, but it was agreed that the loan would have a
very small interest rate in lieu of a salary increase, (a bit like a bonus
if you want).
He had been with us for over 5 years and we know him very well.
Paperwork was signed to acknowledge the debt and the agreed repayment rate.
Soon after the loan was...

Employment references. by
Jez T
A freind if mine has recently applied for a job.
The company he applied to rang a few of the former employers listed on his
CV to check that he worked there and get some references. Without telling
him.
At one particular company, they managed to get through to 3 managers for
whom he worked. 2 gave glowing references, and one slated him. As a result
of the 1 slating him (this guy is a bully and...

I can't find the word 'sterling' on either the IOM =A310 note or the En=

=A310 note. I notice that the IOM note has a " promise to pay the beare=

demand at any office of Isle of Man bank "

conversion to tenants in common equity by
colin2000@talk21.com
Suppose a house is bought by 3 people in joint names (joint tenancy
owners) and the deeds show that they are of one joint beneficiary
equity 'share'(as joint tenants). If at a later date is proved that
one of them had actually invested more of the purchase price, would
this joint beneficiary equity 'share' now become treated as 3 tenants
in common shares?

Are you against the national ID database? by
Graeme
Then sign up and make the following pledge:
"I will refuse to register for an ID card and will donate £10 to a
legal defence fund but only if 10,000 other people will also make
this same pledge."
Go to this URL:http://www.no2id.net/
Roughly 5300 people have already done so and this has only been
going for less than one week.

The greatest myth about the ID card bill is that it is about ID cards by
Equinox
Let's cut to the chase - the government is not in any way interested in
a national ID card - it is nothing but a smoke screen.
What they really want is a national database containing biometric data
about *every* person in the UK. It will complement the new online
medical database perfectly.
The idea is that you are scanned and the information checked against the
online database - no need for an...

Writer needs advice by
Tim Walters
I'm writing a story set in London in 1988. Can anyone tell me (roughly) how
long it took for an amicable divorce agreement to become final in those
days? And how long today?
Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Regards,
Tim

" Three men have been arrested in Pakistan in connection with the murder of
the Glasgow teenager Kriss Donald.
The 15-year-old was abducted near his home in Pollokshields last March and

Hopefully deportation and conviction will close this saga of one of the
worst racially motivated murders ever seen in scotland where...

shops mistake by

A well-known high street superstore chain delivered an Internet ordered
dishwasher. The item is plumbed in and has been in use for about a
month now.
I didn't realise but my husband has just noticed that the model
number they delivered is actually a much more expensive model than I
ordered.
I need to get an amended receipt for the warranty but am worried if I
contact them they will want to charge...

Enduring Power of Attorney by
Lansbury
I am very seriously considering registering an Enduring Power of Attorney
given to me by my mother.
Just want to check on one thing. I believe at the moment she is incapable of
handling her affairs due to mental problems, which may or may not get better.
Could be caused by side effects of medication she is taking.
If I have registered the Power of Attorney does this prevent her from...

Timothy Evans by
D.M. Procida
In 1950 Timothy Evans was hanged for murdering his baby daughter (and
would also have been foor his wife, but they didn't bother to secure the
second conviction). He had protested his innocence, and an appeal was
dismissed. Then he was pardoned, when it turned out that his wife and
baby had almost certainly been murdered by the serial killer John
Christie (poor bloke, can you imagine losing your...

School holidays by

I apologise in advance, and beg your forbearance for bringing up a subject
that was visited here only recently.
This concerns the vexing subject of school holidays not quite coinciding
with the lowest prices available to the public for their holidays, or, to
put it another way - the rip offs that the industry practises.
I see reports in the news that 'they' are about to impose penalties...

Overtime payments by
SG
Does anyone know of any legal angle that might help in a dispute my
wife is having with her employer?
She has a one year fixed-length, renewable contract for 8 hours a week.
However, with additional courses she has to do and filling in for
sick/absent colleagues she usually works ~15 hours/week which she
claims as overtime at her normal rate on a monthly timesheet.
Her employer currently pays...

Liability advice for e-book publishing by

book on bicycle mechanics. I intend to publish this book via the Internet
as a downloadable e-book and due to this method of distribution anyone in
the world could get their hands on it.
I am now unsure whether to continue. I am concerned that someone could
misuse/misinterpret the instructions in the book and cause damage...
