Reluctant partner - selling house! by
Tracy
A friend of mine has joint mortgage with her partner. (They both work and
contribute equally to the mortgage and bills). The relationship isnt going
too well and my friend wants to leave. Sadly, he is in denial about the
split and refuses to believe she is leaving.
She has asked him to assist her in either selling the house or to sell her
half the house, so she can buy her own flat or small...

If someone commits a minor traffic offence on a Greek
island, and then travels home without paying the fine; what
would the learned members of ulm consider to be the likely
consequences or outcome of said heinous crime?
1] Say, me.

Liability of bar-staff serving minors by
ath
I work in a bar in the UK and, to avoid losing our jobs, myself and other
bar-staff cannot refuse to sell alcohol to minors - management turn a blind
eye to minors asking for alcoholic drinks and threaten us with dismissal if
we refuse.
Can any liability attach to the bar-staff for serving alcohol if we know
that patrons are minors or does all liability rest with the owner of the
bar?
Thanks!

Harry Stanley and his table leg by
Wm...
Does anyone know if any of the investigations have looked into who it
was that said he was apparently an Irish person carrying a shotgun?
That the man was shot and killed is clearly wrong (it was a table leg in
a plastic bag not a shotgun and he was from Scotland) but am I the only
person wondering why there seems to have been no investigation into the
source of information that resulted in...

Letting agents & deposits by
M
Hello,
If you've signed a tenancy agreement stating that you need to show bills
paid (etc) within 60 days or the letting agent may not return your deposit,
is this considered reasonable? Is there a timescale where they're legally
allowed to claim that money?
And, is it worth pursuing this in the small claims court given that the
agreement was signed with those terms?

parking problems and car ports by
Paranoid Android
hello I hope someone here can advise me please.
The neighbours have started parking their car on their front lawn. They have
taken down the fence on the front if the property and gravel chipped it
over. I live in a lollypop type cul-de-sac so parking is limited as it is.
These are council properties.
They are now telling people that they can not park in the road as it is
stopping them getting...

Purchases that trash other purchases by
Random Observer
Lets say someone buys a dodgy power supply unit for a computer. The PSU
produces voltage spikes, which damages the computer's other hardware
(motherboard, processor, etc.)
Who is liable for replacing the damaged components? The retailer, the
manufacturer or the consumer?
How would the liability be affected if the PSU was from a known "cheap"
brand?

employment law - holiday entitlement by
pdavey@tesco.net
Regarding employment law with regard to holiday entitlement, I have
just had a holiday request denied as there is no cover available.
Actually, nobody employed by the company can cover my job, so recently
a consultant has been covering my role. I have given two months notice
for a 5 day break and It was never an issue in the past plus this
ruling only applies to me and not the other 7 people in...

Freedom of Information Act Request by
GB
Apologies, but this is a long post!
My son is in a special school at the moment, and I need to consider where to
send him for sixth form. The local authority is adamant that he can be
taught in local schools, but he has very specific needs and I am not clear
that the local public sector schools can meet these. In order to try to get
specific information, I am considering a request under FOI.
I...

Right to use paid annual leave by
adunn01@gmail.com
any opinions on the below:
My employment contract gives me 26 days annual leave, 2 public holidays
and up to an additional 10 days using flexbenefits. So 38 days annual
leave in total.
I work for a small department in a large company. We have 10 people in
our team. The next smallest department is 90 people.
The business policy has now become that: 11% of people can be off on

Can an Act of Parliament be illegal? by
TJ
The Licensing Act 2003 was pushed through against opposition from all parts
of the House and in both the Lords and the Commons, by concessions for live
music exemptions being promised in the Guidance notes.
As the guidance notes were not available until some eighteen months after
the Act receiving Royal Assent and still do not contain the concessions
intimated, can the legality of the Act be...

Can we have our ball back Mister? by
DDEckerslyke
What is the legal position if, say, one of your children accidentally kicks
a ball into a neighbour's garden and the neighbour refuses to give it back?
For argument's sake let's say the neighbour does know that it belongs to
you/your children. Does this constitute theft? Just to balance things out
what are your responsibilities as a neighbour? If these accidents happen
several times a day then...
