3 Month notice periods by mavy

Juvenile Statement by John Smith
At what age can a 'young person' give a written Criminal Justice Act statement without an adult being present? Is it 17 or 18 years please? I appreciate that under new legislation a video interview should be conducted if possible but my question relates specifically to a written statement. Thanks

Statutory Demand by Richard Smith
Hi, I've received a Statutory demand under section 123 of the Insolvency Act from a creditor who says I owe them just under £5000. I have refused to pay this because they sent the wrong goods but refuse to take them back saying the goods are correct. I do not want to pay this, I'm quite happy to go to court to argue it as I know I'm right, so can I just ignore this and wait for the winding up...

Selling part of garden to neightbour by Tickettyboo
Neighbour has approached us and asked if we would be willing to sell part of our ( long) garden to him. In principle this is fine, but we are concerned that a possible future owner of his house may get together with another neighbour or two and sell a combined section of their gardens as a building plot...that would not be fine as far as we are concerned. Would it be possible/binding to have...

Chip and Pin and Security by teddy
As all of the Chip and Pin key pads I have seen DO NOT COMPLY with the security level promoted by the providers (no sides to obscure the numbers I enter). Can I refuse to enter my PIN and revert to signature, unless the appropriate level of security is provide?

Just a "hi" by Steve
I'd like to say hi to this newsgroup. My name is Steve, I am currently coming to the end of the Legal Practice Course having previously completed the Law Degree. I'm very new to newsgroups, so be gentle, but hopefully I can try and answer people's questions and queries as best I can. Its also good to learn from other contributor's answers. Just one question though; how many people who frequent...

Advice re fraud by Masha
I got a letter demanding money from a debt collection agency, which I sorted out by explaining that the goods had been bought in my name by the person who bought my old flat, they had to be - I've moved out 3 years ago and could prove it, so that was OK. I'm not doing anything about the guy, hoping it's a "one-off", but does anyone know a way for me to find out if he's bought anything else in my...

3 Month notice periods by townie_owlie
"Alex Heney" wrote I am not a lawyer, but I do understand that only up to one month can be enforced against a normal employee. Slavery, tied workers and indentured service was abolished a little while back. I know statute protections exist for employees against long notice periods, but cannot quote the authority. I think the reason you cannot quote the authority is that...

Is this legally acceptable? by Random Observer
As I posted in a previous post, I'm planning on doing some DIY works on my place soon. I'm pretty busy during weekdays and hope to do the work during weekends. As I understand it, there are limitations to contruction hours during weekends. Presumably this applies to DIY works as well? My neighbours are eager for me to get any renovation (and carpeting) done so that my footsteps on thin carpets...

T Mobile and refunds by Aosmosis
I have had a few problems with T mobile in the past. The main one being that while I switched bank accounts, T mobile tried to collect £330 which was declined, however on the second attempt they managed to take it. They immediately imformed experion/equifax which affected my credit rating slightly. I have phoned T mobile on several occasions and asked them to rectify it, which they promise they...

An amusing eviction service for landlords by Odie Ferrous
Francis Davey wrote: 150 properties is hardly any. To get that far with £500 requires a certain amount of luck though. This means the properties are worth an average £67,000 each. Must be garages or mobile homes or something. Regardless, if I owned that lot, I certainly wouldn't involve myself

Citizen's arrest: worth doing? by Random Observer
Today while I was on the way to get groceries at a supermarket near my place, I saw a young man running out of a nearby pharmacy with hands in his hooded jacket pockets (strange since it was so warm today!) and the pharmacy staff shouting and chasing him, but stopping short just outside their door. My first thought of course was that he was a shoplifter who was in the act of getting away. I...

Steve Firth ) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying : Is it illegal to hold a camera a press the shutter button while driving? I'd guess so, possibly under the same legislation as a mobile phone. However, if you use a tripod, you should be OK.
