"Terminate for any suitable reason at any time" - is this legal? by
porzeraczmuzguw
Hi
At first, please, don't blame for not knowing the UK laws - I'm from
Poland. Some time ago I was using services provided by UK hosting
company. It was great... to some point, when the company said that
they will not host my sites anymore and that they will use their right
to terminate my account written in Terms of Service. The exact phrase
in TOS is:
"We reserve the right to terminate your...

Adoption Question by
Charani
What would the situation be if a child was adopted by his natural
mother and stepfather without the natural father's knowledge or
consent because the natural mother had falsely claimed the natural
father was dead?
Would the adoption have to stand or could it be overturned?

Job title of 'Director' by
Drew M
I wonder if someone could clarify the following for me.
To my understanding, a job title which uses the term Director (e.g.
Sales Director, Technical Director, Marketing Director) indicates that
the person is a legal director of the company, as registered with
Companies House.
If a person were to hold a job title like Sales Director, but not
actually be a legal director of the company, apart...

Cancelling an eviction notice application. by
That'll be me then
Due to relationship problems my daughter has been left in arrears with her
rent on her housing association property.
I've just found out that a couple of days before Christmas She recieved
papers in the post saying that the HA were applying to court for an eviction
notice and that this court date is at the end of February.
On my insistance, she has contacted the HA and been in to see them. She...

Getting a US visa with a drink driving conviction by
Jacob
Hello all to you UK.L.M. folks.
I'm planning on a holiday in the USA later this year but it's just occured
to me that I might be refused a visa because of my drink driving conviction
from Sep 1997.
Does anyone know if this will be a problem? I don't suppose it makes any
difference, but I'm not planning on doing any driving whilst I'm over there.
I believe you can actually travel to the US...

Buying out a Statutory Tenant - paying them to move by
Graham Brooker
I have a 1-bed flat in London with a statutory tenant aged 38 who inherited
her tenancy from her mother 20 years ago. Nobody else can inherit under
current regulations. The regulated rent is £322.50 per month. I always
believed she would move of her own accord when getting married as there is
very little space and she has a well paid job.
She asked me a few times for money to leave and I...

How/where to obtain text of an Act? Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 by
Nick
I want to find a copy of the Inheritance (Provision for Family and
Dependants) Act 1975 with any/all amendments to date.
I would prefer to do this on line but hard copy would be quite
satisfactory.
Google has not led me to any useful links. I am not an experienced Googler.
I have no problem with paying for the information, I don't expect a
freebie.
Any help, links or info would be much...

is it a crime? by
zebra
If a developer knocks down a listed building without listed building consent
is it a criminal act and the council has no option but to inform the police
that a crime has been committed? Then, it is up to the CPS to decide whether
to prosecute?
Or could the council decide not to act?
If it is a crime and the council decided not to report it, would that be a
crime?
Could a private individual report...

Tort Law - Economic loss by
lbeswi@essex.ac.uk
Hi to anyone who can help me!! Was just wondering if anyone had a link
or information they could post here on the following case:
"Losinjska Plovidba V Transco Overseas LTD (the Orjula) 2
Lloyd's Rep 395"
All I can find on the net is the firms involved and one line of
information that simply states 'Company releasing dangerous chemicals
is liable in tort if fails to clean up' - which is pretty...

Local Authority Planning Permission for a nursery next door (bang goes my sanity!) by
MuthaLeech
Hi
Wonder if anyone can advise. I live in a semi-detached house and the
property next door has been sold to an investor who has put in a planning
application for it to be converted into a day nursery for upto 20 children.
Now the walls are paper thin and I'm just about getting used to the constant
stream of trains at the bottom of the garden (my only refuge is to stay
indoors with the windows...

I have had my eBay listings removed for violation in the sale of copyright
material.

UK immigration law: PR eligibility question by
AN Other
I'm currently a first year doctorate student. I've done my 4 year
undergrad degree in the UK, spent 15 months unemployed (due to visa
difficulties) and was forced to work for 6 months in a subject
unrelated to my degree because of these visa difficulties. Obtaining
permanent resident status for me would be extremely helpful.
I have heard that one only needs to be a student for 4 years...

Untaxed old cars by
six-toes
we have been trying to get rid of a load of old bangers with no tax
disk ,no MOT or insurance in our road.
you would think it would be easy ,but its not !
these cars are liable for a free tax disk and not having a free tax
disk means that the police and council cant move them .
the DVLC dont want to know either . The dept of transport says contact
the police and DVLC but they dont want to know...

Lodger in Scotland by
Fat Freddy's Cat
friend of mine has separated from his live in girlfriend and was
thinking of taking in a lodger to help with costs of keeping on the
house himself.
Question is,
can he simply advertise and let someone have a room on a verbal agreement?
Is this practicable?
Legal?
what about security of tenure for the lodger (friend would like them to

A variation on the 'price wrong on website' thing. by
Clive George
(second attempt - did my first get moderated away?)
Hi -
I ordered something on somebody's website recently. Their site said
'carriage charges will apply to orders under 50 quid', but when we made the
order, these charges did not appear (due to a bug in their system for that
item, since corrected).
They then posted the item off, and charged my CC for the amount + postage,

can I ask? by

why my "soggy icecream" post wasnt accepted here? Did the moderators
believe the subject line implied something of a pornographic nature?? One
only had to read the body of the post to see it was a Sales of Goods Act
query.
I am an active user of this ng and found the site very useful on many
occasions - perhaps you could remind me of the rules and regs on the use of
the ng, so I can learn my...
