Recommended housing insurance company? by
The Court Jester
I was looking for a new insurance provider after having problems with
my current one. Can anyone recommend a good insurance provider with low
premiums and which won't delay/count the pennies if it ever comes to a
claim?
Also do you guys have any suggestions on how to get cheaper premiums?
Like is it worth trying to go back and forth between companies, saying
"Company X offered this deal which is...

Inheritance: out of curiousity by
robertmlaws@yahoo.com
It depends on what the will says 9as others have explained).
An interesting case is when two people die at the same time (in a car
crash for instance). The order in which the wills are executed might
well affect who gets want. I believe that the older person is deemed
to have died first.

Hi,
Two years ago I inherited some money when my father died in Australia.
If I now transfer the money to a UK current account, am I required to
declare this as income for this year and pay tax on it?
any help appreciated,
KJ.

Dodgy ex .............. by
Penny Farthing
Back in November I received a letter from a firm of solicitors asking for
the whereabouts of a man I used to live with. I told them I do not have a
forwarding address.
This week I received a letter from this firm of solicitors addressed to my ex.
I telephoned them and asked why they were again writing to him at my
address. They said they had carried out a credit check on him and it showed
that...

Ebay & Contract (again) by
Mad Ad
I read up and down the group that ebay contracts are not exactly well
defined in uk law and was wondering if there is a resource where I could
understand exactly what is a legal ebay contract and what is not.
A legal contract has to be struck at some point along the auction event
chain, just noone seems to be able to put their neck on the line and say
where that point lies, or at what point the...

Maybe someone can explain this to me as I am thick.
Last week I had a buglery and my car was also broken into in the early hours
of the morning ( 3.00 am ish) I reported it immediately I found out.
I rang the police and I rang the sentinel insurance and cancelled all my
cards within half an hour of finding out and before the shops opened that
Sunday morning.

Bailiffs and the wrong house by
Helen
I had a letter from some bailiffs attached to my door on Saturday, stating a
debt owed by the 'occupier' to Scottish Power and with threats to cut off
the power by entry by warrant within three days. The letter was addressed
to the occupier at X cottage. I am not that cottage or 'occupier'
concerned, have a different postcode and don't even get my electricity from
the company concerned.

Problem with former landlord by
Marco
While staying at my former accommodation, I accidentally damaged
a carpet by staining it with shoe polish. Since the stains didn't
go away, I told my landlord I'd be paying for a new carpet when
I left. I left five weeks ago, and on that day my landlord told
me he'd get back to me after the holidays to give me a price for
the carpet. Since early January he came up with various excuses
whenever I...

4 family members inherit family home - 1 wants to sell, I don't - where do I stand ?? by
a_newsreader@yahoo.com
Our mother died almost 2 years ago leaving her 4 children the family
home, to be shared equally. I don't have a copy of the will but I
believe that it simply states that the property is to be shared equally
(i.e. it doesn't state explicitly that the property is to be sold and
the proceeds to be divided equally).
Now the eldest (one of the two executors) would like to have her share
of the house...

Road Traffic Act 1991 - Notice To Owner by

Having recently received the above document for a parking violation, I
noticed that it states:
"The Road Traffic Act 1991 sets out six grounds only on which you may
make representations. The Council is not required to consider any
other circumstances"
It then goes on to list, in detail, the six grounds of representation,
(mainly technical). When checking this out, I eventually ended up

Wills / Deeds of Variation by
Terry Tomato
Hello everyone
My grandmother died recently, with her will bequeathing her estate
equally between my mother and aunt. My mother (generously!) has decided
that the inheritance should skip a generation, and I should be the
beneficiary of her share. (This share comes under the limit for IHT.)
We'd like to construct a Deed of Variation for my grandmother's will,
transferring my mother's share to...
