Landslip by Jasper M
Hello, Hope someone can please give me some advice. To the rear of my house there is a wooded area (owned by Local Council) Over the last 30 years this land has been slowly slipping away, there is a small stream. My boundary fence has now started to fall over. I needed a new fence anyway due to rot, however are the Local Council obliged to repair/prevent any further landslip?

Small claims in County Court by The Todal
A useful and interesting piece in the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1382773,00.html "No shouting, no fireworks, no wigs, no gowns, no fuss. Welcome to justice, small claims court-style. It's not newsworthy and it's not spectacular, but it is the most frequently resorted-to form of justice in the country. Each year, some 50,000 small claims cases (ie, those involving sums under...

Prescription drugs without prescription by pete_uk
Can someone clarify what would happen if someone was caught with drugs (lets say sleeping pills) that are prescription only but got them without a prescription? I'm assuming this would be a class C drugs charge. thanks.

Police and Community Together by Derek Hornby
Hi all, Is anyone here involved with "Police and Community Together" (PACT) ? A PACT has just been set up in our area and the police are encouraging people to join the committee. I may consider applying to join depends on how often the committee meets, i.e. how much time commitment it needs, plus of course communication support. Anyway, if anyone is on a PACT committee I be interested to...

Is it legal for an employement agency to charge employees? by GB
Is it legal for an employement agency to charge employees? I ask this because I was approached out of the blue by this firm. They appear to be charging employees a fee for placements, including an up-front 100 Pounds charge to go on their database. Does the fact that they refer to employees as 'contractors' make any difference? http://www.clientcontacts.co.uk/contractor_faq.asp

Police Records by Simon
I posted this some time ago but it didn't appear on the individual.net news server. My apologies it has appeared on other servers. About 2 years ago my ex-wife made a complaint that I had been showing my son, who lives with me, pornographic images on my PC. My son was interviewed at her house and I was arrested shortly after he returned. 6 PCs in 3 vehicles came round at 9pm on a Sunday to...

my home and the inland revenue by Jay Dee
I have effectively been squatting on a houseboat for some years. (my anonomous IOM company that owned it folded some 3 years ago,, but I have stayed onboard) I have an immediate problem whereby after an investigation by the Inland Revenue, I have been whacked with an unpayable tax bill (thanks to my ex wife's instigation...). Now the IR want proof of ownership as part of my asset assesment. I...

Enhanced vetting? by Dave
A friend of mine who is an N.H.S. employee has recently had (along with other colleagues) to sign a new contract which will allow enhanced vetting. 29 years ago at the age of 14/15 he was convicted in a juvenile court of assault, apparently during a play ground altercation of some sort. He was given two years probation. He is now concerned that this previously...

Getting written quotes from solicitors... by Jamie
Is it a good idea to ask insist on a written quote before enlisting a solicitor? I'm developing a property and need a solicitor to draw up leases and then do the conveyancing when I sell. But I also anticipate needing a few prolonged telephone chats on legal matters as the project progresses. I have two solicitors in mind who were recommended as having the necessary experience. I expect they are...

Hoax emails by GB
Police say they have charged a man with sending hoax emails to relatives of people missing since the Asian tsunami, saying their loved ones had been confirmed dead. Police said a 40-year-old man from Lincolnshire was charged with malicious communication and causing a public nuisance You live and learn. I never knew that malicious communication was a crime. Perhaps the TV licensing authority...

TV License should be scrapped by Mabon Dane
I have not had a TV for years and yet I have had numerous letters from TV Licensing threatening me with this or that. They visit when I am not in and leave a letter when they call. They have sent recorded delivery letters that I pick up at the post office. TV Licensing officers seem to think that all because I do not have a TV License at my address I must be breaking the law. It never occurs...

BT, low usage contract by entwisi
I received my telephone bill today which contained a leaflet explaining two low usage options for my landline. However they both said they were only available to people without a mobile. Firstly, can they make such a condition and would I have the right to non disclosure? TIA -- Entwisi Honda XL1000V Varadero 'The Big V' FBOTY#2003 PIT#3(KoTL)

I fail to see the relevance by Dr Zoidberg
Someone posted a while back about the jury being shown a Marilyn Manson video bought by the accused in the Jodi Jones murder trial , presumably to show the defendant had an interest in all sorts of unpleasant stuff. They now seem to be going even further and I really can't see what they hope to achieve. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4151915.stm "Earlier, the jury viewed paintings by rock...

Computer part returns question by Simon Finnigan
Hi everyone, I`ve today had delivery of a UPS for my PC. Upon plugging it into the mains, it charged up. I then connected my PC to it, turned the machine on and straight away the UPS beeped and started giving off plastic smelling smoke. I turned it all off and unplugged it, the PC still works fine (I`ve gone back to using the normal mains). I`ve asked for, and been given, a RMA, bu have been...

Can anyone help me?? by Akira
My car got towed away on the 30th November on the basis that my permit wasn't visible and was charged a total of £455 (£135 Clamping, £300 towing and £30 Storage) for parking in my own parking space for no longer than 16 hours (parked at 23:45 returned to find it missing approximately 16:20 the following day). I've sent them a letter to appeal for my money back and they simply replied

Dangerous Driving Query by Any Answers
I would like to know what the likely penalty might be for a charge of Dangerous Driving in the following circumstances (I already know what the potential penalties are). I apologise in advance for the lack of specific details, but this doesn't relate to me and I am giving the most complete information I have in my posession. The driver is already on 12 points for a number of speeding offences...
