Pocket Knife legality by
Richard A Downing FBCS CITP
I have a much loved Opinel No.8 folding pocket knife, it has a blade
that is 84mm long (3.2 inches). My wife bought it for me long ago, and
I use it on long walks mainly to peel fruit. I never carry it in my
pocket, but it is usually in my backpack (with the said fruit!).
Now, this knife was bought legally in the UK and I have thought nothing
of it for years. However, in another group it was...

Debt collection by
Jonathan Bryce
Mike wrote:
So, while the creditor may feel that old debt is still owed, it
seems they will have no means with which to collect it. Is this
correct, or is there some other legitimate method of collection?
Subject to one or two exceptions, mainly Council Tax and what came before
it, this is true.

Is saying sorry an admission of liability ? by
Daytona
Is saying sorry an admission of liability ?
I ask because for car accidents, the insurers tell you not to admit
liability and until it was questioned
, I thought that
meant not saying sorry.
I hope you all have an enjoyable christmas !

Phones in Cars - Gathering Evidence. by
DDEckerslyke
When I see someone using a phone while driving I would like them to be
prosecuted. However, I imagine there's no point taking the licence plate and
reporting it to the police. I would very much like this law to be enforced.
Is there anything I can do about the four or five people I see every day
breaking this law?
cheers

So-called Community Support Officers by
Nick Maclaren
Can anyone point me at the legislation that allows them to detain
people without arresting them (see the current news)?
I should also be interested to know of any that gives the police
the same powers, and/or to obstruct people going about their lawful
business without arresting them.
Regards,
Nick Maclaren.

Forged cheque signature .... who's liable? by
Richard White
The scenario is this:-
1. Corrupt self-employed agent takes cheques (including stubs) from middle of recently started
cheque book. The cheques are all crossed "A/C Payee".
2. She later writes out two of these for largish amounts (several hundred each) as payable to
herself, and forges the authorised signature (very obviously not genuine sig).
3. She presents these one of these cheques at a...

car insuracne query by
Derek Hornby
Hi all
If a driver has pasted his/her driving test and holds a UK driving licence,
are they leally allowed to drive any car that someone else owns, (provided
of course owner has give permission) if yes then what is the insurance
situation?
For example, I am thinking of buying a car and then a member of my family will
drive me, plus, someone I employ.
So for a set-up like that, as the car is...

Televised fisticuffs by
Milo Thurston
I've been approached by a television company who, as part of a rather
bizarre sounding 'reality TV' programme, would like me to teach a
group of 8 volunteers how to fight. In one hour. Then have them do
full-contact sparring.
Obviously, there is a potential for injury if one were to let such
inexperienced people loose upon one another. For normal teaching,
public demonstrations, competitions and...

Which qualifications should my solicitor have? by
Karl D
I need to find a solicitor, to (a) draw up leases for flats I want to
sell, and (b) advise me how to deal with any problems that arise with
the planning deptment or building regs dept. and (c) do the

What qualifications should I look for in the prospective solicitors I
consider for the job?
Thank you

Display of "sale" prices. by
Rufus
With this season of sales nearly upon us, I was wondering if anyone
could provide clarity on the display of price comparisons.
For example the DTI have published guidelines on what constitutes a
misleading price:
http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/guide/misleadingprice.pdf
If you advertise a price reduction and then want to reduce the
price further during the same sale or special offer period,...

No business name/address on e-commerce web site by
Space Breaks
If an e-commerce web site fails to display the correct name and
geographic address of the business concerned, it would appear that the
business is in breach of one or more of:
* The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002
* The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000
* The Business Names Act 1985
However, lots of such web sites seem to do this.
