Giving assured shorthold tenant notice to quit by
J Kemph
In the building where I live, there's a flat which out on an assured
shortold tenancy. The assured term is 6 months. The initial 6 months
expired end of July '04. After that I agreed to renew the tenancy on
the same terms.
Now I need the flat back soon, because I want to do a lot of work on
the property and then sell it. His current assured term ends end of
Jan '05. Can I legally give him...

11 year old banned from streets? by
Derek Hornby
From The Times 7 December 2004
Boy, 11, banned from streets.
An 11-year-old boy who made his neighbours' lives a misery became one of the
youngest people to be handed an Antisocial Behaviour Order (Asbo) yesterday.
Aneeze Williamson is banned from every street on the Windhill estate in
Shipley, West Yorkshire, except his own and the town centre after shouting
racial abuse and carrying out...

How about this? by
Fat Freddy's Cat
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4076195.stm
Guy is launching an appeal since his trial may have been prejudiced by
publicity, and the warrant used to search his flat was possibly flawed.
What is the aim here?
He at no time has denied killing the young lad and chopping him up to
dispose of the body (and unlike the BG case, the evidence was very much
conclusive), so why appeal?

Use of variables in statutes by
Iain Archer
Is the use in statutes of symbolic variables, as in the use of A and B
in the following section of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, a recent
development?
3(1) A person (A) commits an offence if-
(a) he intentionally touches another person (B)
(b) the touching is sexual
(c) B does not consent to the touching, and
(d) A does not reasonably believe that B consents.

Data Retention. by
Booooper
According to a privacy journal (EPIC): (www.epic.org)
Pressured to give examples of the necessity of data retention for law
enforcement, Donner admitted he had not told the 'full truth' to
Parliament in the previous meeting when he pointed to 'the success of
mandatory data retention in the UK'. He now acknowledged there was no
legal obligation to retain data in the UK, only a self-regulatory...

Tenant/Landlord issue... by
Lapchien
My friend's mother was recently admitted into a nursing home, having been
told that she only has months to live. Up until the move she was renting a
flat via an estate agency, and was in receipt of housing benefit.
My friend has moved in to her flat for the duration (i.e. until she dies).
The agency have found out that the tenant (his mother) is no longer living
there. The housing benefit...

Please help...debt collector problems by

Hypothetical Employment Situation (also posted to UK.Legal) by
Rich
"Miss x" have worked for "company y" for many years. 5 years ago "miss x"
was forced to step down from grade 3 to grade 2, and take a 25% rate cut to
the bottom of grade 2 payscale, on return from maternity, because the boss
thought women with children couldn't maintain the same commitment to the
business.
"Miss x" wakes up to her rights now, upon discovery of pay policies, and
realises she is...

Misc. questions about property, TVLA, clamping, etc. by
bleeeeeeeeh@hotmail.com
Just a couple of questions...I'm interested in hearing your opinions on
these issues.
Seeing how people have been brought to court for trying to defend their
property, supposing you had a hungry pooch on guard duty in your home
and it mauls an intruder. Are you or the dog in trouble?
I am not a big person and I've been told that some debt collectors try
to use physical intimidation to extract...

Refusal of permission to visit property by
Will Dean
Today I sent a recorded-delivery letter to an organisation which is
repeatedly threatening to send a representive to visit my house. (They have
no statutary power to enter my property, nor any legitimate (moral or legal)
reason to do so.) In this politely worded letter, I clearly told them that
they must not make any unsolicited visit, and that to do so would cause
'great distress' and was...

Stickers Racket by
oper
Hello,
Local Asda store has increased price of Lion King DVD.
They have simply put new price (£14.97) sticker on top of old (£8.97)
sticker.
Have been informed via uk.legal that there was a law introduced in the 70's
to prevent this type of thing.
Does anyone know which (if any) law has been broken.

partner a lease over commercial premises (estate agency) on with personal

resigning of the company and I would like my name to be taken off the lease.
How easy is to do that and what shall I do?

RTA with Pedestrian by
Stroller
In an RTA, a pedestrian was walking in the middle of one of the carriageways
at night (and there was nothing stopping him from walking at the edge of the
road). He was wearing dark clothing with no illumination whatsoever. He
was walking with the traffic flow (although traffic flow was very sparse) so
that he couldn't possibly see any vehicle which might be approaching him.
The pedestrian was...

Cold-calling share advice from USA by
GB
I seem to be plagued at the moment with people Cold-calling me from the USA
with advice to buy shares. In some cases this is reasonably well-thought-out
advice to buy fairly well-known stocks. In other cases, the advice is to buy
tiny companies. I think 'boiler house', but the firms are invariably on the
SEC list.
My response, being public-spirited is to keep these guys on the 'phone as
long as...

Dispute with DTI Redundancy Payments Office by
Geoff P
Hi All,
On 1st Sept it became apparent that my employer was in financial difficulty
(they didn't pay us). Directors were unavailable for comment, office moral
plummeted. Eventually the local manager conceded that people could go home
if they so wished provided they remain in touch and return when/if payments
were sorted out. No payment was ever made.
On the 29 Sept the company went into...

A company with which I am connected took out a contract for web

The customer company gave the required notice to terminate the
contract as it had found a cheaper hosting provision elsewhere.
However, the first hosting company continued to extract money from...

Locum Parentis - litigation? by
Tracy
Hi there,
I wonder if you could help in a little query of mine. As a trustee member
of local public hall and cinema we are aware that we are responsible for
children who attend the cinema without their parent(s)/guardian.
As a small cinema with very low attendance on children coming to see films,
we are attempting to optimise the cinema's future by thinking up new ideas
on how to get more...
