suicide journey allowed why? by
Derek Hornby
Now how come the police sit back when law broken?
It's clear the husband has committed an offence.
From BBC news website.
Ban on suicide journey is lifted
The High Court has lifted an injunction banning a man from taking his
chronically-sick wife to Switzerland for an assisted suicide.

stop and search by
Derek Hornby
Hi everyone, Sorry this long.
Is this strory likely to be true, and if yes were the police acting correctly,
ie legally?.
Surly they don't behave in the way Nicky Samengo-Turner says he was treated.
Any views on this report?

Student posters with celebrity pictures on them OK? by
justabeginner
I was going to put up some posters of a society I am helping to run at
university. In order to draw more potential members to it, I was
hoping to put in some pictures of celebrities who practice the martial
art.
However, I am unsure if this breaches any copyright issues or not.
Could anyone clarify the position of the law on this?

"I have enormous sympathy for fathers who are being denied contact with
their children, but this a case where the father (if Blunkett be the

Buying an untaxed car -- getting it home? by
Sim C.
Sometime soon I'll probably be buying a car from British Car Auctions
and I'm fairly sure that it will be untaxed. How do I go about getting
it the 30 miles home? Is there any dispensation that would allow me to
drive it untaxed for that one journey?

Responsibilities of Highways Authority by
Nick Maclaren
I have asked this before, and was given some pointers, but my searches
indicated that the common beliefs (even by lawyers) that Highways
Authorities have some statutory duty to build highways so that they
are usable is false.
There is definitely a common (?) law duty to MAINTAIN them, but that
is very different from the requirement to design them so that they
can be used safely or, indeed, at...

Any IP lawyers out there? by
Duncan Crowther
I'm looking for some pointers on an IP issue please. The scenario is that if
material is placed on the internet (web site) in breach of copyright, and
someone else views the material, I'm hypothesising that the fact that a
local copy of the material is created on the viewer's PC is in itself
technically in breach of the copyright reproduction right.
This seems a reasonable conclusion to me, but...

Offer of Employment by

4 days after a successful interview 7 weeks ago at which a verbal offer of
contract, effective from 1/1/05, was made and accepted, I received a letter
from the employer confirming the offer with dates, subject to medical
clearance, and stating that a contract would be drawn up in due course. I
completed the medical clearance forms at that time. At a meeting on 1
December, 6 weeks after my...

The Spectator article - a question. by
Wiggler
'We are conducting random stop and search under current anti-terrorist
legislation,' began the constable, addressing me through my open side
window.
'Would you mind if we searched your vehicle? We're training these new
community
support officers.'
Does one have to comply under the law? What if he had said "no"?

Commercial lease advice by

Further to my previous posts here WRT the "Solicitor Charging
Problem", I am at a complete loss IR of a commercial lease and
imminent signing. As Andrew McGee wrote in Message:
A more fundamental question is why the undertaking was not demanded before
any work was done.
That was the first indication that my solicitor is not on the
ball. More recently I was...

Faulty Washing Machine by
Fat Freddy's Cat
Just thought I'd ask the groups opinion.
Mum phoned me last night - her washing machine broke down and an
engineer says its the PCB. £90 + VAT + labour to fix.
The machine was purchased April 2003.
Of course, when I phoned the high street store today, they just banged
on about warranties etc... The customer services department were no better.
