Modified cars an insurance by
Dr Zoidberg
If you modify your car without telling the insurers they may refuse to pay
out in the event of a claim , which is fair enough.
What about if you have bought a second hand car and are unaware of any
modifications that may have been made by the previous owner?
It's quite possible that ordinary drivers will be unaware if alloy wheels
have been changed for example , and if there are engine...

How to identify letter writer to newspaper by
Mabon Dane
I am trying to help someone in relation to the following:
Individuals A, B and C are victims of a sustained campaign of harassment
by anonymous individuals who attack in various ways by e-mail,
internet posts and other means. An individual called D sent a letter in
to the local newspaper that was published with name and address withheld
referring the newspapers readers to web site X. Next day...

Historical Question - Council Housing in 1984 by
Everett Edgcumbe
Hello;
If I may, I would like your views on the following historical case:
In 1984, a homeless single person applied to a London council and
asked to be assessed for housing need. The applicant also asked to be
put on the council's housing list as a prerequesite for going on the
(then) GLC Mobility Scheme to try for a hard-to-let property.
The council first discharged its obligation to provide...

Graphics design - copyright & assignment of rights again. by
Stroller
I know this subject has arisen here a couple of times in the past but,
unlike the poster of August 19th's thread I am in the unfortunate (one
might say ill-considered) position of having to consider this matter
retrospectively.
I have been self-employed as a sole-trader for about 6 months now, and
spent the previous few months prior to that in planning & preparation.
All my work is local, in my...

I don't think he likes lawyers that much either.
His name is Paul Black and he runs a smallish firm here is Sussex.

Present documents to police? or not by
News Admin
My partner was driving home last night after work and was stopped and
brethalysed by the police. Negative result.
He was stopped because one headlight had just blown. Fair enuf. (Now
fixed!)
He was told to present his driving licence and insurance documents to
the police within 7 days.
Now he has lost is licence and cannot find it anywhere. So we have to

Parking in a disabled bay by
Simon Finnigan
I know, two posts close together, but two different questions, and I thought
it`d be better to keep the threads seperate.
Basically, I`m wondering about the exact legality of supermarkets putting
those big, stupidly sticky notices on cars parked in disabled parking bays
without displaying their disabled parking badge. I used to have to put
those stickers on regularly when I was working in a...

Witnessing a Deed by
GB
I just want to check whether it is okay for two of the parties to a deed to
have their signatures witnessed by their son? We usually ask for an
independent witness, to be on the safe side, but is the situation above
okay?
(It's a done deed, so to speak.)

1995 Copyright notice by
Peter Crosland
I've noticed that an OUP book I bought this week in the UK has a
copyright notice saying:
© Fraser Sampson, 2005
Does that mean I can legally copy and post extracts from it freely
for the rest of 2004?
No.The copyright exists for, AFAIR, 70 years after the death of the author.

Fly tipping by
\Jane Boulton \[Remove BRAINCELL to Reply\]\
I'm not sure if this is really fly-tipping but it's close to. We live in an
old terrace (1820's) of five houses. We are the middle house. We have new
neighbours two doors up from us. They are completely gutting the house and
have a skip on the road outside.
Over night on Friday/Saturday a bed was placed in this skip. We assumed the
builders put it there as they work at all hours. Today...

Mark Dunlop
Is there a website somewhere with details of posts to ULM which have
been rejected by the moderators?
About 80 hours ago, I posted a response to the 'Limitations' thread,
which hasn't yet appeared, so I was wondering if it had been rejected
for some reason.

motoring related question by
Tim
"Colin Davidson" wrote
The advantage of this position is that you're more visible, and
to be overtaken a vehicle has to pull out onto the other side
of the road (i.e. it has to do what it really ought to be doing
anyway), so you are -way- more likely to avoid nasty incidents
due to motorists overtaking leaving little or no margin of error.
I'd have thought that cycling like that...

Leafleting a car park by
Simon Finnigan
Hi everyone,
I was wondering what the legality is of someone going round a car-park and
putting leaflets under car windscreen wipers? I ask because a friend and I
where discussing it, and we`ve both heard different things.
I was told (when I was out moving trollies for a big supermarket) that it IS
legal, but if people where to take them off their car and dump them in the
car park, we could...

Tail-gated by
GB
On my way round the North Circular yesterday, I was chased out of the fast
lane by a car behind me. He came up so close behind me that I thought he was
intending to ram me, and I feared for my safety and that of my passenger.
There was no room in the near-side lane to move out of the other car's way,
so I was forced (I felt) to speed up, so as to get to a gap on the near-side
and let this chap...

Media portrayal of the Thatcher case by
$Scott
Although the recent alleged coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea has been
portrayed as a rather old fashioned 'boys own' adventure, is this correct?
Under the recent Terrorism Act 2000 legislation wouldn't it be more legally
accurate to describe such an act as terrorism?

Sick pay and holiday leave by
Talitha Kumi
This is just a hypothetical question. I've been doing some reading into
statutory sick pay and disability benefits such as incapacity benefit,
and started wondering how these applied to the concept of holiday pay.
As I understand it, statutory sick pay lasts for 28 weeks. At that
point, if you are still unable to return to work, you go onto incapacity
benefit. I presume at that point you and...

Disappointed in you lot. Advised TX2 to post here on the basis that he
would get advice from knowledgeable people and you ignore him (A reason to
call for improved ISP service levels?). Ok, the title does not sound very
legal and the message was a little verbose.
In summary:
A friend of his signed up for ADSL with an ISP and, after three months, is
still waiting for a working connection. The...

Extra tenancy terms after moving in by
TimB
Hi,
I moved into a flat a few months ago, and took a table top dishwasher
with me. The dishwasher is in a kitchen shared between 5 of us, and
the landlords also have access to this shared area (The landlords work
in an office below, and have accepted large parcels and delivered them
to the shared kitchen for me a few times since the dishwasher arrived)
A few days ago I arrived home to find that...
