The Todal: "Obviously not..." by
Matthew Church
Q1: "What does the team think will be the long term effect on London
and Manchester of 'dirty' bombs of similar magnitude to the IRA's?"
Q2: "Is there anything we can do to try to prevent it happening?"

Wrong defendant, inflated claim by
Benedict White
I have come accrose a case involving a friend of mine.
The first issue is that he is being sued in his own name for the actions
of another. In short, he os being sued as an individual at a business
address. The person who should be sued is the limited company which
carries on business there. (Of which he is a minority shareholder and
nothing more)
Second, the claim seems inflated, even if there...

A friend of mine worked as a class room assistant on a short term

was asked to keep working, with the promise that the contract would be
renewed. She evenually received a letter confirming that her contract
would continue from the end of her previous contract, though no the
letter did not mention that the extension to the...

Liability for a tenant's utility bills by
Jo Lonergan
I've just been sent an electricity bill addressed to "the owner" of my
house, for a property that has nothing at all to do with me. It
appears that the people renting the property gave my address as the
address of their (apparently anonymous) landlord.
I presume these tenants have done a runner, and that the company is
expecting me to pay the bill. I'm a bit curious: would I be liable, if
I were...

One for the civil law experts by
Bystander
An elderly lady was standing at a bus stop. She was run into by an electric
pavement buggy driven by a gentleman in his nineties. Her knee was
shattered, which left her mobility severely impaired and meant that a
planned knee joint replacement could not now take place, due to the damage.
The buggy was not registered as a motor vehicle and carried no number plates
(as is normal). Weight of the...

Another Council Tax question, but this one is about time by
Peter Crosland
The bloke inn the que behind me said that we don't
have to pay our CT on set dates and we can hold it back and pay on the
last day of the financial year if we wanted to and thats ok
Completely wrong! You are legally obliged to pay the full amount on the
first of April. As a concession Councils will allow you to pay in ten equal
monthly instalments starting on the first of April. If you fall...

Outsourcing grounds for redundancy ? by
archie
I work in software development. My current duties are analysis, design
and programming, and my title is 'Technical Architect'.
My company intends to do all this work offshore. My new job will be
called Technical Architect, as now, but will involve only high level
technical assessments and domain and product knowledge. All actual
architecture, design and programming will be outsourced. My...

Is this fraud or deception by
Sven
Hi,
I am trying to gather evidence against an Ebay member to try and
recover the costs of a transaction that has gone wrong.
In short the advert suggested that I was paying £149.99 for a TFT
monitor, what i actually got was a photo of that said monitor. On
reading the auction again you can see it is cleverly worded to say
'photo'. Look at this link for the...

"The jury will disregard that evidence!" by
Tim
Sometimes, the jury is sent out of the courtroom while it is decided whether
or not some evidence will be produced.
In many American legal soaps on tv, the judge often turns to the jury and
says "the jury will disregard that evidence!"
Why?
Isn't it suggesting that the jury are like little children, incapable of
deciding themselves whether to consider that evidence or not?
Why aren't they given...

Midland Main Line Ticket Fiasco - Invalid Ticket - Resolved by
bob
This is ridiculous. At lots of stations they confiscate the ticket when you
pass through the barrier at the station regardless of whether it's an out or
return part. This includes places like Leeds which is actually served by
MML. I'm not surprised they gave you your money back.

Land law ( Unknown Covenants) by
mich
I have a piece of land which had no title documents. There was no previous
registration and to regularise the tile and registration , a possessory
title was gained to the land. This title became effectively absolute in
1999, but being slow to act I only recently decided to have the registration
updated - well recently means I instructed a solicitor two years ago, and
following phone calls and...

All the data gathered by this little black box will be used to calculate
insurance costs. From this information they will be able to determine

Obviously that information has a value.
Who owns that information ?
Is the information 'owned' by Norwich...
