And even more blunkett idiocy by
Dr Zoidberg
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3557372.stm
Having spotted another bandwagon to jump on , blunkett wants to stop
prisoners **and their families** from claiming lottery prizes.
Aside from being completely unworkable , requiring a winner to prove that
they have no convicted criminals in their family , what exactly is the
problem here?
If someone is at a stage in their sentence that they are...

Admissibility of terror evidence by
Derek Hornby
The following letter appeated in The Times 16 August 2004
Admissibility of terror evidenc
From Sir Brian Barder
Sir, One of the many questionable features of the Court of Appeal
judgment on the admissibility in terrorism cases of certain evidence allegedly
obtained by torture (report, August 12), and one on which there has been
surprisingly little comment, is Lord Justice Laws's statement that...

Car brake light question by
Simon Finnigan
Hi everyone,
I was driving along behind a nice new car today, and had a thought. My car
has normal bulbs in the brake lights - if they fail the police can pull me
because the light is obviously off. What if I`ve got LED brake lights
though - the car infront of me had 12 LED`s. At what point can the police
stop you? If one LED fails the light is less than 10% dimmer - at what
point would the...

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) by
MGP
I personally own a second house in which two of my sons live. I also use an
elf contained annexe at this house to run my business.
My company pays me rent for the use of the house for the business. There is
no formal agreement or lease in place
It has been sugested that SDLT may now be payable to the Inland revenue and
that by not paying this I may incur interest and a penalty.
Does anyone...

Beware rise of Big Brother state, warns data watchdog. by
DB.
BRITAIN'S information watchdog gives warning today that the country
risks "sleepwalking into a surveillance society" because of government
plans for identity cards and a population register.
Richard Thomas, the Information Commissioner, says that there is a
growing danger of East German Stasi-style snooping if the State gathers
too much information about individual...

Travelling from the UK - US by
sniper
My apologies for the cross post but to be honest, I'm not sure who to ask
about this.
I am in he UK and would like to take my daughter for a few days in New York
but I want it to be a surprise for her - not telling her until we were
checking in.
This wouldn't be until march next year but by that time, the new regulations
for travelling to the US will have come into force. Her passport will be...

Contract& Liability in House Shares by
Gunter Kuhnle
Hallo,
I'm about to move into a House Share, and I have a few question about
the contract the landlord presented us and regarding the liability of
each tennant. Perhaps someone of you could give me some help:
The property is a terraced house, and the landlord seems to be the owner
(although he has his own 'agency' running the house). The contract seems
to me very biased towards the landlord, ie...

I've just realised that I've had a post rejected, no problem there,
however
the reason given was:
"The reference to a "****** *****" Egyptian is
potentially defamatory and risky given his litigious nature, and the
nervous
nature of the mods. Please consider reposting with a small adjustment."

At best such a return

Can you expand on the extent it is reasonable to inspect/try the goods

Allegations of being a paedophile by
Simon Finnigan
In another newsgroup, someone has just posted the name and business address
of someone, accusing them of being a paedophile. The person being accused
denies this, and claims that the OP is a disgruntled customer who threatened
to do something like this.
Personnaly I believe the accused, but either way was wondering what the best
thing for this person to do is? Obviously they should...

Cancel a contract? by

Last January I got a quote from British Gas to install a new central heating
system, a gas fireplace and a shower system (Just about everything needed
renewing in my new house).
I told them that I'd have to take some time off work to get it installed and
they agreed to come and do all the work in a single week in February. They
installed the heating system on day one and two but then their...
