EURO 2004 - why can they do this? by
bigbrian
According to the news reports this evening, British police in Portugal
are videoing groups of English football supporters in Portugal,
gathering evidence of offences such as racial chanting and lewd
behaviour, which, although not evidence of offences under Portugese
law, are intended to be used to bring the offenders to book back in
the UK with a view to obtaining banning orders against...

Child Benefit Question by
Ste Kearney
Long shot but worth asking!
I now have custody of my five kids and noticed that we (myself and my
ex-partner) have never received CB for our last born child, despite sending
them her birth certificate etc.
I'm chasing this up, copy birth certificate etc, but I can only get the
claim backdated 3 months, not from when she was born three years ago.
I realise this is the law and I've got no chance...

Wills and Scottish Law by
Rachael of Nex, the Wiccan Rat
Please bear with me for a tad complicated situation.
My boyfriend is the executor of his mother's will. His mother died of a
tumour on her brain stem (as I understand it) in 2000. His mother and her
husband lived in Scotland and her will was made under Scottish Law. My bf
lives in the UK. My bf is the sole executor of the will, a copy of which is
sitting right here on the desk.
Her will states...

ripped off on deposit - campervan hire by
Cheeky
Hi all,
Recently hired a campervan and had to put down a £300 cash deposit
(fair enough)..... As would be expected it had to be returned clean
and tidy.
When I dropped it off the other day the guy commented on how clean and
tidy it was inside and said they would check it over and return the
deposit by cheque.

Nuisance calls by
GB
I keep getting calls (several a day) offering to sell me stuff. This
interrupts my work and costs me far more time than just the length of the
phone call. I work as a sole practitioner, not through a limited company.
I have registered the number with the telephone preference service. Is
there any more I can do?
Is there anyone I can complain to? As an example, I was telephoned today at
15.47...

The law and usenet by
Tess Tickles
I have just been looking at a web page about the law in the uk and I
found
the following about the law and the internet, does it apply to the
news
groups and why does it not apply to them, is it because the groups are
run or operated from America or something like that?
Malicious Communications Act 1988 Section 1
This is the wording of this section as amended by Section 43 Criminal
Justice and...

Debt Recovery by
Rob
I'd like to clarify something.
I ordered some computer equipment from the USA. It came via FedEx and
I was required to pay duty. FedEx prepayment telephoned me and I made
the payment, before they delivered it (they wouldn't deliver it
otherwise). Then it was delivered. Later on I received another
invoice, for a different amount, also relating to duty. I thought it
was a mistake (stupid me) and...

BT Exchange Boxes by
John James
Hi all,
Wonder if someone can help with the following potential
problem.
My house has some grassed area that belongs to us and is
located to the side of the house. It is an open plan development
so there is no wall around it and it is bordered at the bottom by
the footpath. It's about 12ft long and five foot wide so not very
big but the kids love playing on it.

Parent V Parent re MMR for child by

Fortunately my reproductive days are over but my two sons 24, 20 will

I don't blame them either.
My son has had the 'necessary' vaccines during his first 16-12 months,
but has not had, nor will he be having, the triple-MMR vaccine.

Interlocutory Order - ignored? by
Martin Nicholson
In the Interlocutory Order dated 02 June 2004 the respondent to a sex
discrimination claim was required to serve on me within 28 days a list
of all documents they held "relevant to the triable issues."
It is now 03 July 2004 – 31 days later - and this list has not been
received.
1 – Do I have to RECEIVE the letter within the 28 days or is it enough
that they POSTED it within 28 days and that...

Demetrius Zeluff
I'm reading another newsgroup an d they're talking about Offal.
With various health scares I thought there'd be a nice precise legal
definition in this country for offal.
Can anyone help me find one please?

Parking on zig-zag lines in front of a school. by
Fred
A headmaster has instructed parents not to harangue school bus drivers and
taxi drivers for parking/waiting on the zig-zag lines outside a school
because, according to him, they are allowed to wait there.
Can such "officials", connected with picking up and putting down children,
park/wait on these zig-zag lines?

Tenant's husband moving out by

I have a flat that I rent out. Husband has been a tenant for quite a few
years. He paid the deposit. He subsequently married, and he and his wife
lived in the flat together for several years. They have two children.
Tenancy agreement (shorthold) is now in joint names of H + W.
Today I got a letter out of the blue from the wife to say that she had
reverted to her maiden name, her husband was...

Nuisance neighbour by

I have a neighbour, who even the most kind hearted of people would
regard not only as a nuisance, but also a small minded paranoid bigoted
fwit.
His lates wheze is keeping bees, yes, in a garden of a small semi on a
residential road, with lots of kids around.
Bees are not of course a problem, per se. In fact as I keep lots of
things that need polination, they are a good thing if kept by some...
