Russian Brides? by
Demetrius Zeluff
What do I need to do if I marry a Russian lady? (She's in Russia, not here
yet. I'm here. Here is England.)
What happens if we get married and she leaves me a few years afterwards?
What happens if she's not Russian but, say, Estonian?

final hearing by
13
I'm an LIP trying to prepare for a final hearing in a residency case. I
gather I may have questions put to me and will have a chance to
reciprocate, but I'd like to know more than that about what format it
takes and what to expect. Will I get a chance to make a statement? What
can I and can't I do? Any pitfalls to avoid? Any tricks to look out for?
Finally, any sites with information/advice about...

What's Blunkett doing now? by
Richard Miller
The Guardian reported on 9th June as follows:
"Rejected asylum seekers who cannot go home will in future have to
undertake compulsory unpaid community work in return for benefits as
part of a last-minute package of measures to tighten Britain's asylum
laws announced last night.
"The package will also see thousands of successful refugees dispersed
around Britain being banned from moving to live...

Data protection Act and University Email servers by
Joel
Anyone been down this route?
I am advising a colleague who has taken up a case of academic fraud
against a University Colleague. He hopes he can prove the fraud by use
of the Data Protection Act to allow access to emails stored on the
University Backup Server between the accused colleague and other
specific persons.
Is this allowed?

My last two posts have been rejected for being OT for a legal group
(see 13187 & 13243). Are these really off topic for a legal ng when
they ask a legal question that has attracted post on ukl?

Supposing a person was in the final stages of a residency dispute with the
final hearing looming up in the very near future. Supposing the child had
not been happy with the CAFCASS officer. Supposing the child had not felt
able to talk to him/her. Supposing that child had been too guarded in their
answers - perhaps a little afraid that one of the parents would be
displeased if they were honest....

Home Shopping-Commission payments by
Mike Mcall
Hi all,
My mum has used a well known home shopping company for years, earning
commission payments on all payments off her account.
Presently at the rate of 10%, if paid in cash, 12.5% if used to buy goods
from their catalogue.
In the past, when her commission earned was greater than her monthly
repayment, she would ask that the commission be used as payment off her
account. This would then earn...

costs in residency application by
13
I'm an Litigant in person in a residency application which is not going
well. (The report recommends that my daughter stays with her mum even
though my 11.9 yo daughter said she'd prefer to live with me)
At the final directions hearing recently, the opposing Solicitor said
something I didn't understand (and cant remember) to the judge about costs.
I wondered if anyone familiar with court...

Setting up a company question. by
Comfortably Numb
Recently I've been getting itchy feet and thinking about moving abroad so I
came up with this idea. Is it feasible and legal?
My intention would be to set up a company with my parents and buy a property
abroad which we intend to let out (hopefully year round). I would be an
employee of this company (living in another property adjoining the main
property) and I would be the on-site maintenance...

What is reasonable? by
Keith
Last year my son-in-law had his computer seized by the police after it was
reported that he had downloaded child pornography. (He claims it was
unintentional, but that is another matter.) They have now had the computer
for over a year and apparently not even looked at it, so obviously no
charges have been brought. What I would like to know is how long the police
can reasonably hold onto the...

Tickets will not be exchanged or refunded by
Rob Nicholson
I've just accidentally booked the wrong time for some film tickets on the
UGC website due mainly to their poor website interface. I have a Lloyds TSB
VISA card which is also a DELTA card. I went through the process of picking
the cinema, film, date and time and then entering my card details saying
it's a VISA card. It was declined. I've used this card many times for buying
things on the Internet...
