Discovery of posters ID by

Is it really reasonable for an internet

2.5 hours sounds not unreasonable, and £40/hour sounds very cheap.
You're getting it so cheap because it'll be some junior staff member
doing the retrieval for you, rather than on of the senior administrators
or managers, their charge rates would...

them?
As far as I know, all you need...

Capturing The Friedmans by
The Todal
Having just seen this excellent film documentary from the USA, I hope it is
soon available on DVD in the UK. It is a very thought-provoking work, on
the subject of sexual abuse of children and the associated hysteria. Not
just "based on" a true story, it is actually a true story that was
videotaped as it happened and although it all takes place in the USA I am
sure it has lessons for our...

Court rate of interest - Is this 6%?
Anyone know where I can find the historical rates, please? I looked on the
court service website, and it hardly springs off the page, so to speak.

flat access by
FJDx
I have submitted an offer on a property (in Scotland) which has been
accepted and the date of entry is in about 6 weeks time.
Due to the time scales involved, I was only able to see the flat once
(wish I had more time to see it a second time before deciding but there
was a quick turn around due to it being fixed price). I tried to gain
access again when the surveyor went along but was...

Description of goods - how much do I have to read? by
Matthew Garrett
IBM advertise several of their current laptops as "Wireless upgradable",
which means that they contain all the hardware necessary to use wireless
networks with the exception of the actual transmitter. The laptops contain
a standard socket (Mini-PCI type III) which is also used on laptops
produced by other manufacturers. Various manufacturers produce cards that
fit these sockets, and in general...

Prisoners' treatment by
Enrico C
How far can a punishment go? A report says that convicted serial
killer Robert Maudsley lost "a good deal of weight" because of the
drugs he receives in prison "to control his violent mood swings", and
he is now reported to be "near death".
The report is not completely clear whether there is a cause-effect
relation, but it seems to suggest that.
My question is: isn't that a inhuman punishment, if...

Unwanted people parking on my property by
news@darkfire.co.uk
Hi
Brief background : I own the middle one of three flats in a town
street property which has two off road parking spaces in front of it.
I own the rights to one space and upstairs own the rights to the
other.
Various tenants have come and gone downstairs without a problem but
the latest lot are causing problems by parking in one of the spaces.
They do not have a vehicle themselves but have...

Is 'Carafe' a Legal Measure? by
Colin Derr
Hi,
My local pub's offering a `carafe of red wine' with a meal for two. A
carafe is delivered, with a 1L mark on it near the top of the neck, and
the wine quite some way below it. Given the number of glasses that it
fills I'd say it was dead on 750ml.
Now I'd be happy to pay the same if it was a bottle of wine instead of a
carafe, but I was curious as to whether they're in the wrong here in...

Double jeopardy and a loophole ? Nah, something's not right here. by
Medallion Man
The BBC reports at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3821263.stm that a
British citizen tried, found guilty and sentenced in a Portuguese
court, then deported to the UK to "serve his sentence here" won't have
to serve his sentence here but will be put in front of magistrates
regarding the UK's (dim) view of his behaviour while in Portugal.
I don't want to start discussing the merits or otherwise of...

Chain Letter by
lloer
I've just received one of those stupid chain letters asking me to send £10
to a list of people with the promise that I'll get lots of money back in
return.
What's the legal position with letters like this?
Should I report it to the police?
I would like the man at the top of this pyramid scam to be dealt with
appropriately.

Notice of Possession by
Jason
Today I have received this notice for rent arrears.
I started work in Nov 2003 and it was April 2004 by the time the council had
processed our claim. Anyway this left us owing £262 to the Housing
Association. I agreed to pay them £10 a month as I have now changed jobs and
am currently not earning. They agreed to this and sent me some giro forms to
enable me to pay at the post office.
Now today...

Mobile phone contract - right of return by
JustMe
Can anyone advise on this?
I recently "upgraded" my mobile phone. As a part of the upgrade process I
had to sign a new 12 month contract. I quickly discovered that the phone is
faulty and today, (less than 2 weeks after purchase) I tried to return the
telephone for a refund - even when working correctly it is a very poor
performer, but it otherwise crashes intermittently and has therefore...

Jurors asking questions by
Alan R Williams
Hello everyone,
In an English criminal court, if a juror wants to ask a witness a
question can they do so? The Court Service handbook for jurors
suggests that a juror can give a question to the judge (via the
usher). Is that only procedural questions or does it also apply to
questions for a witness?
Thanks,

Advice req. about Liability Order ( Poll Tax) by
Tony
I would like advice about a dispute with Liverpool City Council
concerning the Poll Tax (yes, the Poll Tax).
I will try to keep this brief.
I was entitled to a rebate of approx 75% of the P.T.
The council refused to give me this rebate, obtained a Liability
Order, leaving me with a debt of £870.00.

cases, the National Audit Office estimated. Home Secretary David

Two Section 21's Possible? by
Roger
Hi,
I'm renting on a Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement. The initial 6
months is coming to an end and the landlord, through his agent, has
issued me with a section 21 giving me notice to vacate 2 months after
the initial 6 months is up. This has been issued some 3.5 months in
advance as opposed to the minimum of 2 months.
What I'd like to know is whether in the remaining time he can...
