uk.legal.moderated dinner by
Anthony Edwards
I think this might be a good idea, to celebrate the creation of this
newsgroup (there is a tradition of uk.legal having occasional but
infrequent dinners also).
I am not sure how one might moderate a dinner, though.

Can I have my money back please? by
xavier
About three years ago I was sued by someone I can best describe as a
nutter. His reasons for sueing me (for in excess of £50K) were
preposterous (you'll have to believe me on that) and I initially
thought that his action would fall at the first hurdle. This hurdle,
in the shape of a preliminary hearing at Leeds Combined Court put the
fear of the Almighty in me. Mr Nutter was represented by a...

Credit info by
GB
I just spent 2 pounds and got my credit file from equifax. It shows all
sorts of info about other people in my family too. For example, Equifax told
me the balance on my son's credit card, even though he is aged 22 and no
longer living at home.
Surely this is wrong? My son is entitled to his privacy. Also, do they hand
my son's info out to other people if I ask for credit?

Queens Bench versus Administrative Court by
Bloomin Heck
Could anyone "in the know" explain the actual difference
in evidence giving, procedure etc between the Queens Bench
and the Administrative Court ?. I am led to believe, rightly or
wrongly, that the Admin Court tends to skim over matters whereas
the QB goes into greater detail .
Thanks

Problems with an ex committe member by
Angie
I am the secretary for my local residents association. the treasurer
has recently been voted off the committee because of his rude,
argumentative, aggressive, sexist and general disruptive behaviour.
There was one committee where he became so verbally aggressive
towards me, when I asked him to stop he raised his fist to me, but
fortunately didn't hit me.
Since he has been voted off he has...

Electoral Law - and possible beaches of it by
Bryan Morris
At one point in my life I was conversant with electoral law but my ex
wife just phoned me about something and by the time I phoned her back
the person who, she considered had broken the law had left.
Basically someone had visited her, in a van from her local authority
(Barnet Council) handed her her Official polling card and also, at the
same time, some election literature from one particular...

What's the best way to give a property away? by
Nick
I would like to divest myself of our family home and pass it our 2 adult
children. My wife and I would wish to remain as 'lifetime tenants' and
would want some flexibility in any 'contract'. The degree of flexibility is
an unknown quantity, I don't know what is possible. The main priority would
be to protect this property and to not inflict any tax burden upon the
kids.
A little background. My...

Credit Card Repayment Problems by
Barry Salter
Hi gang,
I have outstanding balances totalling around £4350 with three well known
Credit Card companies. £1900 with one, £520 with another, and £2195 with
the third.
On 15th November 2003 I sustained a dislocated and fractured ankle when
coming out of a shop , and I have been unable to work since that
time, so have been claiming Incapacity Benefit.

Recording/Requesting Credit Checks et al by
Pat Winstanley
Quite a few questions of (hopefully) general interest. I've had a good
search on the web but the following questions seem to remain
unanswered...
1. As far as I know, when a business runs a credit check on a potential
customer (for instance for a credit card, buying on credit in a shop
etc) the fact that there has been a credit check made is recorded on the
file held by the credit check company...

Football managers and their contracts by
bigbrian
Can a club, who sack their manager to enable them to appoint a
preferred replacement, then insist that they will only pay the
remaining three years of the sacked managers contract on the condition
that he doesn't take up a similar position during that three year
period?
In effect, how long can gardening leave run before it becomes
restraint of trade?

I would be interested to know from any Barrister or
Solicitor please as to what documents a party to a case
(or his legal advisors) may give to a party WHOLLY

excepting that he may find the content useful for his own

Perhaps at first glance our reaction would be that he's a rather unpleasant
person and why not hand him over to the American torture squads to see what
they can get out of him, other than bodily fluids of course.
But it seems rather odd that a "key member of al Qaeda's European cell" has
been allowed to go about his normal business without...
