Company. by
Qintin
My aunt has insurance issues; the company her insurance company is dealing
with is called Liberata.
They seem fine so far, but I have never heard of them before - does anyone
have any information on them. Good or bad.

Search and sieze powers by
A N Other
Suppose premises are entered, with a search warrant, and a number of
items removed on suspicion of containing illegal material (or because
the pig in charge happens to want one).
No arrests are made and no questions asked.
Is there a time limit on how long items siezed may be retained without
charges being brought? If so, would they be returned automatically, or
must they be claimed?

Criminal or Civil Matter? by

ENGLAND AND WALES LAW
My girlfriend is currently a student at college studying fashion artistry.
She and 9 fellow students were asked by their tutor if they would take part
in a non-remunerated work experience project which they agreed to. Anyway,
it turned out that this tutor was actually paid over £2000 to supply 10
artists for the day.
The tutor was asked by an event's coordinator to supply...

A friend of mine from abroad purchased on Sunday a printer/scanner from PC

night & found it was missing a USB cable & the glass scaning bed was
smashed. Needless to say it's going to be returned tonight, hopefully for

Terminating sick employees by
Gary
If a small business with, say, 5 employees has one employee off on long
term sick (sicknotes provided), can they terminate them and hire someone
else? Does it depend on length of service?
Whilst it may be possible for ICI to deal with covering a long term
absentee, a small business is left with 20% down on the workforce, and
no real possibility of hiring anyone else until matters are...

Legal defences to charges under the Trrorism Act by
Cynic
I happened to re-read the Terrorism Act 2000 recently, and it seemed to me
that the actions of our government satisfy all the criteria in the Act to
make it guilty of the offence described. In the very unlikely event that
Tony Blair was to be charged under section 56 (1) as quoted below, I'd be
interested in speculation as to what his defence counsel would be likely to
offer as a defence.
It...

Getting Repairs Done with an Absent Landlord. by
Lynn Tall
Hi,
I am renting a first floor flat (Assured Shorthold Tenancy Agreement).
The downstairs neighbour has just reported water coming through the
ceiling to it looks like there is a leak from the shower cubicle.
As instructed by the letting agent I got a plumber out on my landlord's
insurance. The plumber couldn't do anything as he would need to cause
damage to remove the skirting, etc., to access...

4 Weeks paid leave - I get 15 days.. What gives? by
Dan
I have just been looking at the working time regulations and saw that,
amongst other things, your employer should give you at least 4 weeks paid
leave a year. The company I work at gives you 15 days a year which then
increases by 1 every year you are there. Is this okay?
Just a quick second question. They talked to me about changing my hours from
7.30 until 3.30 to 8.30 until 4.30 and I was...

Grounds for Appeal question. by

Hello
I would be interested to know what exactly constitutes an
acceptable ground/s for seeking permission to appeal/appeal.
Are these;
1. That the Order made is excessive in that there were lesser
and less severe Orders that could and should have been made
before the severest one. i.e. should the Court make an unless

Question: EU money transfer charges by
Chris Croughton
I'm told by a friend in Germany that for intra-EU money transfers banks
are no longer allowed to charge extortionate rates, but have to treat it
the same as within their own country. The only reference I have found
to this is dated 22/11/2002:
http://www.out-law.com/php/page.php?page_id=visasmoneyt1037977055&area=news
which says in part:
Visa EU last week announced that it has launched a...

I believe that it is up to the landlord under the present licensing laws.

Yes , of course they can.
Pubs have their maximum opening hours set by law , but there is no
requirement to allow the public in at any given time.
