Refusing to sell at a sale price by
Tim Miller
At lunchtime today, I went to a well-known electronics components shop to
buy a USB Bluetooth dongle. They had only one left on the shelf in a
cabinet, so I asked the salesman if I could have it - he said yes, and went
to go and get the box for it.
On top of the dongle, so clearly indicating to what it referred, was a price
label, which read:
Save £30!
Was £59.99

Passport application by
David Kent
I was asked to certify passport photos for a friend's nephew whom I have
known for about 5 years.
As a Chartered Accountant I saw no problem.
The clerk at the post office rejected my certification as I had written
'I hereby certify this to be a true likeness of .....'

Fathers 4 Justice 2 charged with a Public Order Offence by

been rejected:

Debts etc surviving bankruptcy by
Pat Winstanley
As far as I'm aware some things like Child Support arrears, IR, C&E
debts are not cancelled by bankruptcy.
But what happens with things like court fines etc? Would they survive
the bankruptcy too?
And what happens if someone who is an undischarged bankrupt is fined
whilst they are an undischarged bankrupt?

Bail pending appeal. by
Alasdair Baxter
A friend of mine allegedly assaulted a fellow passenger on a train. He
has been charged with common assault and is shortly to stand trial in
the magistrates' court. If found guilty, he intends to appeal against
his conviction to the Crown Court and wants to know how to apply for
bail pending the crown court hearing. He also wants to know how
likely bail is to be granted were their worships...

Libel but by who? by

AFAIK, you can only sue the person that libelled you.
If there are multiple users of an account, I think you will find it almost
impossible to say who...

Libel but by who? by

The person who can be proved to have written it. The account owner can be
sued if it can be shown that he published the libel.

Data Protection Act by
funky mum
If you have requested information held about you, under the Data Protection
Act, how long should it take for you to recieve the information.
I have requested some information about myself, and I have been waiting over
two weeks for at least an answer to my email requesting the information.
(Its a long drawn out boring story). I haven't even had so much as an
acknowledgement from the party that I...

Credit Card refunds by
John Bishop
I have an argument with my credit card company. Last July, Paycom started to
charge $40 each month to my card. I travelt o the states a lot and thought
it was something else. I finally realised this in January, and raised a
query with the card company.
They asked me to confirm it in writing, which I did. After hearing nothing,
I called them and was told that Paycom had incorrectly given my card...

Police Complaints/Home Office comments by

Just for anyone contemplating OR involved in a
complaint against the Police at present. Someone I know
spoke with the Home Office the other day and they
accepted his argument that even under the IPCC regime
*because most complaints are investigated by the Police
themselves* they are NOT compliant with Article 13 of the
Human Rights Act. The case to refer to is Govell -v- UK

i bought them with a visa card thinking at the time this would offer me

This is a question related to a hypothetical,
it does not relate to an actual case.
The Question is:
Can an invidual the comments of whom are quoted (or misquoted) in a
publication potentialy libeling
a third party also sue (for libel) the 'producer', editor or authour of
said publication?
I would imagine the answer is somewhat complicated if the comments are

Does anyone know of:
a) A good book explaining the basics of the UK legal system (criminal and

b) A good book, perhaps explaining how to act as ones own lawyer in the
civil courts (e.g. small claim, etc).
Or any good webpages especially for b)

Letting Agents and Landlords Advice Needed (Longish) by
Bobby Internet
Apologies if this is not the correct place to post, but was hoping to get
some advice...
Back in January I required some emergency work to sort out a tap under the
kitchen sink which started leaking on a Sunday morning. I attempted to ring
the letting agents, but unsurprisingly they was no answer in the office, so
I decided to source a plumber myself.
I rang a local acquaintance who is a...

I'll try and be brief.
Can someone tell me what the definition of theft is when applied to
marriage?
I'm currently going through a nasty divorce. I was married for just over two
years and when we split I was effectively thrown out of the marriage home.
Since then I've not been allowed back to collect any of my personal

"A WOMAN has won a legal victory that will benefit thousands of others who
split up with their partners. Until now unmarried women were not
automatically entitled to a share of the family home if their relationship
collapsed. But a judge has ruled that Elayne Oxley has a right to a portion
