Ownership of house items post sale by Dribbler[_2_]
An interesting legal point has arisen on 'Coronation Street'. Sally done a house sale/swap with Claire. Claire has discovered a box of valuable old programmes left behind in the loft by Sally. Claire did tell Sally she had found them, but Sally said they were valueless rubbish. Claire sold them for £7000, Sally is upset as expected. She feels she should be offered at least half the value.

What rights does a 15% share in a business confer? (Inheritance) by PuzzledPaula
I own the majority of my family business (as I chose to stay at home and run it while my sister persued her own plans the last 17yrs), but at this point int time my sister is currently due to inherit 15% on my parent's death. I would like to settle this now by buying her out, but she wants more money than the business can afford to extend the mortgage to. (She wants 15% of the current market...

Pre-emptive strike by bob4097@googlemail.com
I want to take a local business to small claims court to recover £850 (already paid) for failure to supply services according to the contract. I'm planning to write to them to give them a fortnight or a month to put it right first. My worry is that as they appear to be delusional about the quality of the work (they think it's "good enough"), they may instead file a claim against me in those two...

Care, council charges, houses by BB
Hi I'm posting this on behalf of a friend. Her and her husband had a property with mortgage. The mother in laws (mil) house was council owned and the offer to buy came up. She and her husband took up the offer and purchased the property for 26K2 when the value was 65K5 there being a 60% discount. They, not the mother in law paid the mortgage.

Youtube video stolen by media by Andrew[_3_]
The local media have taken a youtube video of mine to compliment one of their articles. They hosted it on their own site. This is taking traffic away from my youtube channel and the ad revenue my own sites generate etc. My opinion is this is wrong, I hold the copyright, I created it. Is that right? The fact I put it on a public video sharing website doesn't give them the right to take it...

"R18" Material In Post - Legal Aspect Question by Martin[_7_]
"R18" DVDs have been passed by the "British Board of Film Classification" as being passed for sale in licensed sex shops. I often see "R18" DVDs for sale on foreign websites, sometimes these items are posted A-B from within the UK. My question is does the Post Office classify "R18" material under their prohibitions ? In their guide to postal services under the "Indecent, obscene or offensive...

small claims court: form n244 application notice by Fred
Hello, I missed my court date by accident and the court manager has sent me form n244 to complete. He/she also told me I could ask on the same form to transfer the case to a court nearer home and that I could ask to add a co-defendant all at the same time. However, I am confused. It has two sections parts A and B and part A says: "I intend to apply for an order (a draft of which is attached)"...

Smallholding animals for food by C Danker
With the rising costs of food and eroding disposable income, I am considering rearing some animals in my garden for food. The animals I am considering were chickens and rabbits; possibly (just a thought) guinea pigs. I of course do not want to be unduly cruel, run afoul of the RSPCA or any laws on rearing animals. Are there any legal issues I should be aware of in rearing animals for food, such...

FOI internal appeals always refused: deliberate delay ? by Ian Jackson
I had a FOI request turned down some months ago. I used the public body's internal appeal process as is required. The appeal panel's decision was unfavourable to me, but what struck me as more notable was that the reasoning and basis for the decision was very wrong, and seemed to reflect more a desire to uphold the original decision than an honest attempt to review it. So I asked the public...

Proof of nationality request by employer (Tesco) by Paul Giverin
My wife works for Tesco and following the discovery of illegal immigrants on their payroll, they have demanded that all existing employees furnish a copy of their birth certificate or passport. My wife has worked for Tesco for 16 years and some of her colleagues have done longer than that. They accept that proof of nationality is a legitimate request at the job application stage but not...

Tenants attempting to evict each other? by Matthew Vernon
Hi, Suppose a hypothetical friend has unwisely rented a house with some people they don't know, none of whom have signed a contract with their landlord, but have an informal monthly-rolling tenancy sort of basis. Suppose also, that the housemates have not seen eye-to-eye, and are trying to get the hypothetical friend to leave. If the housemates start harrassing said friend to the point...

Legal status of lost & found items? by danker.caroline@googlemail.com
It seems different organisations handle it differently. Most places keep them for a certain period and then throw them away if they're unclaimed, making no to some effort to locate the owners. Other places keep them for a certain period and then auction them off, with the proceeds going to themselves or charity. So, what is the exact legal status of lost & found goods? At which point do I lose...

Letters of Administration/Probate and liability by Evil Tigger
Hi, My brother comitted suicide last week, leaving no will, and I am trying to sort out his affairs so would appreciate any advice you can give here. He has no property (he was living with our mother) or investments that I am aware of, and has personal effects that (appear to) total well less than the £5000 over which it is *required* to apply for letters of administration. Whilst we have...

Serious help needed for judicial review against IPCC by Ian Jackson
I need assistance with a judicial review against the IPCC. The case relates to their handling of a complaint I made against a police force. The key issues which are I think of wider public interest are these: * To properly prepare and pursue my complaint, I needed access to the witness statements and interview notes from the original police investigation. These documents were collected...

Lifecycle of a crime by a@b.invalid
The following is an attempt to explain the way the police operate and why some long-standing assumptions are no longer true. The primary reference is the "Home Office Counting Rules for Recorded Crime", http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs08/countgeneral08.pdf When a crime is reported to the police by someone claiming to be a victim it will be assessed, usually over the phone, on the facts...

Problems with neighbors installing a balcony next door by Matt Stone
Hi, This is my first post so i hope i don't offend any one. My problem is that my neighbors are installing french doors and a balcony on a flat roof. They did not contact or ask if we would be offended by them installing the balcony. I only found out when the neighbor was removing the old window with a disc cutter.
